In a direct patient facing environment, the infection preventionist professional implements, promotes and maintains an active infection prevention program through surveillance, investigative activities, consultation, education, policy development and research.
A caregiver in this position works 8:00am to 4:30pm but can be flexible. Requirements include being on-call once per month.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Conduct surveillance for hospital acquired infections; analyzes data. Generates reports, identifies trends.
- Provide recommendations for improvement.
- Investigate clusters of infections, outbreaks.
- Utilize knowledge of microbiology, cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of patient care equipment.
- Develop and implement infection prevention policies and procedures.
- Conduct audits on infection prevention practices.
- Provide education and serves as a consultant to various levels of care providers.
- Coordinate infection prevention committee meetings and other related activities.
- Coordinate the annual infection prevention risk assessment, review, and evaluation of the organization's infection prevention plan. Reports communicable diseases as required by the Ohio Department of Health.
- Collaborate with health departments in complying with issues related to outbreaks and control of communicable diseases.
- Comply with mandates for state and federal public reporting of hospital acquired infections.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Three years of recent relevant clinical experience including nursing, infection prevention, respiratory therapy, or medical technolog
- Strong communication, clinical assessment, and computer skills (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other related programs)
- Certified in Infection Control - Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc
- CBIC is required after two years of hire date
- CBIC Certification will offset one year of required experience
