Infection Prevention Specialist

About the Job:

The Infection Prevention Coordinator monitors and investigates known or suspected sources of infections in order to determine the root cause and ensure control. They provide patient chart review, data collection and input to conduct analysis, and administrative support and office management services to the Infection Prevention department and Infection Prevention Officer. 

What You’ll Do:

  • Responsible for daily review of microbiology lab reports, patient charts and medical records.
  • Collects and communicates information daily, and as needed, to staff from Department of Health and Human Services and Manchester Health Department about communicable diseases, demographics, surveillance and data collection from hospital computer systems (i.e. Epic).
  • Responsible for office communication. Screens and follows up on communications and determines appropriate disposition of communications. Consults with and informs appropriate persons of situations requiring attention.
  • Assists in performing ongoing surveillance activities and evaluation of activity reports. Collects, compiles and inputs data into computer and creates and produces reports for the quarterly Infection Prevention Committee, Quality Council, Board, physicians and nursing department directors. Creates and generates graphic reports as well as statistical reports for special projects when needed.
  • Provides administrative support and day‑to‑day office management for the Program.
  • Provides support to the Infection Prevention Committee.
  • Ensures statistics are ready for committee meetings. Generates statistical data for committee review on a quarterly basis. Obtains all necessary information needed to submit statistical data to Systems Analyst for analysis. Prepares, creates and distributes reports. Generates physician and clinical nursing department reports on a quarterly basis.
  • Assists with maintaining the Infection Prevention Manual. Assists with creating and maintaining all infection prevention policies.  
  • Assists with maintaining/updating the infection prevention program web site to include, but not be limited to, updating health department alerts and contact numbers for national, state and local public health departments.
  • Assists in providing infection prevention education, orientation, and training programs to the staff in accordance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains and controls records to account for incidents related to infections and communicable diseases.
  • Maintains internal reporting system to ensure that events are communicated and investigated appropriately. 

Who You Are:

  • Education: Bachelors of Science in Nursing, Medical Technology, Microbiology, Epidemiology or Public Health required.
  • Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a health care setting is required with infection prevention experience preferred.
  • Certification/Licensure: License to practice as a registered nurse in the State of NH if applicable. Current certification in Infection Control or obtained within two years of hire date required.
  • Software/Hardware: Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.

Work Shift: 

Primarily 8:00am - 4:30pm, but flexible
