Tessera is seeking an experienced Industrial Water Treatment Technician to operate and maintain water and wastewater treatment systems at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA). The technician ensures continuous, compliant treatment plant operations, performs process control, conducts laboratory testing, troubleshoots mechanical and electrical systems, and provides technical support to field teams. This position supports mission readiness by maintaining high standards of safety, environmental compliance, and operational reliability.
Typical duties include but are not limited to:
- Operate, monitor, and control wastewater, industrial water, and pool treatment processes and equipment (pumps, valves, aeration, clarifiers, filtration, chemical feed, heaters, sludge handling) to maintain regulatory and performance targets.
- Collect, prepare, and analyze water and wastewater samples; measure and adjust chemical levels; record and report laboratory and process data.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical/electrical/control-system issues, and coordinate repairs to ensure reliable operation.
- Maintain accurate logs, regulatory records, work orders, and timekeeping using mobile/computer systems.
- Respond to emergencies, system upsets, and pool incidents to restore operations and mitigate safety or environmental impacts.
- Provide hands-on technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians while adhering to safety, environmental, and USAFA security protocols.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of direct experience in wastewater, industrial water, or pool operations preferred.
- Associate degree in Environmental Science, Water/Wastewater Technology, Pool Operations, or related field preferred.
- Colorado Wastewater/Water Operator certification preferred (e.g., Class D or higher)
- Strong working knowledge of wastewater, industrial water, and swimming pool treatment theory, processes, and auxiliary equipment.
- Proficiency with process control systems, pumps, valves, blowers, heaters, chemical feed systems, and sludge-handling equipment.
- Competence performing and recording laboratory analyses including BOD, TSS, pH, chlorine, alkalinity, and turbidity.
- Effective mechanical, electrical, and control-system troubleshooting skills.
- Accurate recordkeeping and basic computer skills for logs, work orders, and regulatory reporting.

- May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.
- Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.
- Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.
