JOB SUMMARY:

The Shop Technician supports service center operations by performing equipment maintenance, shop preparation, and technical support activities related to conveyor belt and industrial service work. Working under the direction of the Industrial Program Services Regional Manager, this role assists with equipment inspections, repairs, preventive maintenance, and preparation of tools and materials needed by field service crews. The position helps ensure shop equipment, trucks, trailers, and service tools are operational, organized, and ready for safe and efficient project execution. This is a hands-on role that supports both shop operations and field service readiness

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform standard maintenance and repairs on shop equipment, tools, trucks, trailers, and service equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on buildings, equipment, and service vehicles.
  • Ensure trucks, trailers, and equipment remain D.O.T. compliant and operationally ready for scheduled work.
  • Prepare, stage, and load tools, equipment, and materials required for scheduled service work and field projects.
  • Provide logistical and technical support to service crews, including delivering tools, materials, and supplies to job sites as needed.
  • Load and unload trailers, ensuring proper organization and secure placement of tools, parts, and equipment to support service technicians in the shop and field.
  • Maintain shop, yard, and workspaces in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Set up and prepare shop jobs, including staging tools, materials, and equipment to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of service tasks.
  • Research and assist in sourcing tools, equipment, and consumables to ensure cost-effective purchasing and availability of required materials.
  • Communicate effectively with vendors, supervisors, and team members regarding equipment status, repair needs, and project requirements.
  • Mentor Industrial Service Level I Technicians in safe work practices, shop procedures, and technical skill development.
  • Prepare conveyor belts and related materials for shop splicing and rubberlining activities.
  • Grind, buff, and clean rubber surfaces to required specifications for pulley lagging and splicing work.
  • Assist with measuring, marking, and cutting belt ends in preparation for splicing.
  • Apply solvents, cements, and bonding agents in accordance with established procedures.
  • Stage finger/step templates, fasteners, splice kits, and materials required for shop splice work.
  • Set up vulcanizers, splice tables, power cords, and related equipment for shop splicing operations.
  • Assemble, align, and maintain vulcanizing presses for operational readiness and proper storage.
  • Lay out tools and equipment including splice kits, clamps, pry bars, come-alongs, and ratchets for shop work.
  • Assist with cut lists, belt preparation, splice kit assembly, and equipment setup.
  • Set up and conduct monthly testing of vulcanizing equipment.
  • Install and route hoses, power cables, thermocouples, and related components correctly for testing and operation.
  • Monitor heating controllers, inflation pressures, and operational settings during testing and curing processes.
  • Tear down presses, clean platens, and properly store equipment following testing or shop work.
  • Maintain accurate QA/QC documentation for equipment testing and maintenance activities in company systems.
  • Assemble splice kits for service centers and coordinate shipment when required.
  • Support monthly inventory checks of tools, materials, and shop supplies.
  • Coordinate delivery or shipment of chutes, pulleys, liners, rollers, frames, and related materials.
  • Assist with tracking shop inventory and maintaining proper stock levels of service supplies.
  • Participate in Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), risk assessments, and pre-shift safety meetings.
  • Follow all lockout/tagout procedures and mine or industrial site safety requirements.
  • Maintain clean walkways, remove tripping hazards, and properly manage hoses, cables, and equipment.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, gloves, respirator, fall protection, and cut-resistant gear as required.
  • Immediately report safety concerns, hazards, incidents, or equipment issues to the Lead Splicer or supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for pre-operational inspections, equipment repairs, and maintenance activities.
  • Record QA/QC test results, temperatures, pressures, and cure times during equipment testing or splicing activities.
  • Assist with taking jobsite photos, recording measurements, and completing basic job documentation.
  • Ensure all required operational, maintenance, and safety records are completed and stored according to company procedures.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as directed.

SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities, but provides mentorship and guidance to newer technicians.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of equipment repair methods, preventive maintenance practices, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety practices, including lockout/tagout procedures and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical systems, tools, and equipment commonly used in industrial or service environments.
  • Working knowledge of shop safety procedures and hazard awareness in active work environments..
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair equipment issues.
  • Skilled in the safe use of hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
  • Ability to read and follow technical instructions, work orders, and equipment manuals.
  • Effective verbal communication skills when working with supervisors, vendors, and team members.
  • Basic documentation and recordkeeping skills for inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and complete routine assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain situational awareness and work safely in busy shop or jobsite environments.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and established procedures.
  • Ability to maintain a positive, team-oriented attitude and contribute to a productive work environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing job priorities, work schedules, and operational needs.
  • Ability to travel for work-related purposes, to deliver parts, equipment and or pick up equipment (up to 10% of the time).
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe and efficient manner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Vocational training, technical certificate, or associate degree in equipment mechanics, industrial maintenance, or a related field preferred.
  • Two (2) years of experience in related industrial maintenance required.
  • Must meet all client and company site access requirements, including security clearances, safety training, certifications, and adherence to client site-specific policies.
  • Previous experience in a shop or field service environment preferred.
  • Valid state driver’s license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Company’s Driving Policy.
  • Ability to pass drug, driving, and background screening.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position is typically in a shop setting, with frequent exposure to industrial equipment, tools, and heavy machinery. The employee may also occasionally travel to service sites or client locations and work in a service truck. Brice Equipment has a fast-paced multi-tasking work environment requiring a high degree of efficient and effective performance. At times, work is performed outside of the office at indoor and outdoor job sites. Adaptability regarding schedule and design changes, and occasional overtime for immediate field support or may be necessary.
