As an Industrial Equipment Safety Technician, you will focus on organizing the development and validation of new and existing equipment Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures, tracking LOTO procedures in the GE Appliances Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Application, working with engineering to support safety on new and upgraded equipment. This role is located in Decatur, Alabama, and would primarily be on the first shift.

How You'll Create Possibilities

  • Work cross functionally to develop LOTO procedures for new and existing equipment. When necessary, develop Alternate Method Rationale for Alternative LOTO procedures.
  • Work cross functionally to create and oversee a system to perform and track annual validations of existing LOTO procedures.
  • Maintain and track all LOTO procedures in the GE Appliances EHS Application – Gensuite.
  • Work cross functionally to update, modify, and/or edit existing LOTO procedures when needed.
  • Work cross functionally to create Safe Work Plans for work performed by contractors.
  • Audit contractor safe work plans on the floor and flag an non-compliance.
  • Work with engineering on new equipment purchases and upgrades.

Position Requirements

  • Must have a basic understanding of machinery, electrical, pneumatics and hydraulic systems, machine interlocks and safeguard systems.
  • Ability to collaborate with hourly and salary personnel to meet the needs of the shop.
  • High initiative, self-starter, proactive, dedicated, results oriented.
  • Discipline and must be able to work well in a team.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently with little guidance.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time; ability to bend and to lift 50lbs.
  • Ability to multi-task, to manage shifting priorities and to follow through on projects with minimal supervision.

What You'll Bring to Our Team

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in engineering or occupational safety or related.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of hands-on technician experience in a safety and environmental role, or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • Solid verbal/written communication skills coupled with strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced computer skills – high proficiency in Microsoft products (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook) with the ability to grasp new systems quickly.
  • Demonstrated experience working with industrial equipment and systems.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA LOTO requirements as they relate to industrial equipment.
  • Must be flexible & willing to work other shifts, overtime, weekends and shutdowns as required. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or Occupational Safety degree or similar
  • 3 years’ experience in an equipment technician type role in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on and relevant experience with industrial equipment safety.
