Industrial Engineer (Lynchburg, VA)
Overview:
The Industrial Engineer (IE) supports Distribution Center performance through the development of engineered labor standards, continuous improvement initiatives, and automation/capital projects. This role applies industrial engineering principles and data analysis to improve productivity, service, safety, quality, and cost.
RESPONSIBILITES:
Labor Management & Engineered Standards
- • Develop, maintain, and validate engineered labor standards using predetermined time systems and time studies.
• Configure, administer, and sustain the Labor Management System (LMS).
• Analyze labor performance, utilization, and productivity trends; identify gaps and improvement opportunities.
• Establish learning curves, performance expectations, and standard productivity targets in partnership with Operations.
• Train supervisors and managers on LMS usage, engineered standards, and performance reporting.
• Ensure work methods align with safety and ergonomic principles.
Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence
- Identify, prioritize, and lead process improvement initiatives using Lean/Six Sigma tools.
- Conduct time studies, workflow analysis, and value stream mapping.
- Develop, document, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Lead root-cause analysis for productivity, quality, service, and safety issues.
- Recommend and implement sustainable corrective actions.
Automation, Technology & Capital Projects
- Identify opportunities for automation, mechanization, and material handling enhancements.
- Develop business cases, cost/benefit analyses, and ROI models.
- Support solution design, vendor evaluation, and implementation.
- Create facility and equipment layouts using AutoCAD or similar tools.
- Validate performance of implemented solutions and support sustainment.
Cross-Functional Support & Enablement
- Partner with Operations, Maintenance, IT, Safety, and external vendors to implement improvements.
- Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations.
- Support DC safety initiatives and operational troubleshooting.
- Participate in special projects and occasional travel.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or related field.
- 2+ years of experience in distribution, fulfillment, or manufacturing.
- Experience with WMS and LMS; Manhattan preferred.
- MOST/MTM certification preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office tools.
- AutoCAD experience preferred.
