In-Vehicle Calibration Engineer

The position:

The Calibration Engineer is a key individual contributor with deep technical expertise, responsible for delivering critical work products throughout the full vehicle development lifecycle. This includes requirements definition, calibration design and implementation, testing, validation, and issue resolution.

In this role, you will own the development, optimization, and documentation of engine calibration parameter data. You will work across both laboratory and in‑vehicle environments, performing data acquisition, large‑scale data analysis, and performance verification to ensure robust diagnostic and control calibrations.

This position requires approximately 30 days of travel per year.

What you will do (responsabilities):

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive calibration development plan aligned with program milestones.

  • Create, validate, and deliver calibration datasets according to project requirements.

  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to systems, test vehicles, instrumentation, and calibration behavior.

  • Support the development and operation of test benches; perform early‑stage calibration work using bench systems.

  • Participate in development trips and vehicle testing activities.

  • Assist in resolving issues arising from vehicle builds, manufacturing plants, durability/dyno testing, or customer feedback.

  • Collaborate with Product Development Teams and Technical Experts to refine existing tests and develop new methodologies, including understanding ECU algorithms and calibration workflows.

  • Develop and use post‑processing tools to ensure data quality and evaluate data relevance for final calibrations and reporting.

  • Work closely with facilities, technical leads, calibration teams, and hardware release engineers to improve testing processes and efficiency.

  • Contribute to math‑based development activities, shifting work from physical testing to model‑based analysis where appropriate.

  • Support other engineers in root‑cause investigations.

  • Design targeted tests to identify calibration improvement opportunities.

  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices.

  • Identify system vulnerabilities, document risks, and develop mitigation and corrective action plans.

Location: Proving Ground - Indaiatuba/ SP

Your skills and abilities (required qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics or similars);

  • Active CREA;

  • Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Solid experience in vehicle or powertrain calibration;

  • Programming experience in Visual Basic, C, C++, Python, or similar languages;

  • Hands‑on experience debugging and troubleshooting software and/or hardware components;

  • Proficiency with computer systems and data acquisition tools;

  • Extensive experience collecting and analyzing empirical data to optimize testing or modeling outcomes;

  • Valid driver’s license;

  • Availability to travel;

  • Availability to work at Indaiatuba plant

What can you give a competitive edge (preferred qualifications):

  • Experience with calibration tools such as INCA, Vehicle Spy, CRETA, MDA, and/or MATLAB/Simulink.

  • Familiarity with regulatory test cycles (e.g., FTP, US06, WLTP, RDE).

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively across local and global teams.

  • Demonstrated commitment to innovation and continuous improvement.

  • Strong time‑management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deliverables.
