About the Role

As part of the continued expansion of our Private Investing capabilities, we are seeking to recruit a Deal Lead to join our Investment Grade Private Credit (IGPC) team. Wellington has been investing in private markets since 2003, and the Firm launched its first dedicated private capital fund in 2014. Today, the private investment teams manage approximately $11 billion in assets in aggregate across private growth equity, venture capital and private credit, and it is the fastest growing investment group within Wellington. 

The Deal Lead will work closely with the senior investment team across all aspects of the deal process, including originating, underwriting, structuring, executing, and monitoring globally sourced privately placed debt securities, with a focus on structured and asset-backed transactions. This individual will leverage an established network across banks, sponsors, advisors, and issuers to drive differentiated deal flow. The role requires demonstrated experience executing complex structured and asset-backed private placements, including collateral analysis, structural review, cash flow modeling, and legal documentation assessment. The Deal Lead will originate and evaluate investment opportunities, conduct in-depth due diligence, develop investment recommendations, and oversee credits through their lifecycle. Responsibilities include ongoing portfolio monitoring, assessment of structural performance and covenant compliance, and support of strategic investment decisions in partnership with investment and legal teams.


ESSENTIAL SKILLS
The following essential skills are required for the role:

  • Analytical acumen, modeling, research, and passion – The ideal candidate will have strong financial modeling and analytical skills, and the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, well-supported investment recommendations. The ability to synthesize disparate information, identify the most important elements, and arrive at a conclusion is required. In addition, the Deal Lead will emphasize fundamental/thematic, research-driven approach to underwriting asset-backed structures and the ability to implement those ideas through a highly analytical and detailed approach. The successful candidate would have exposure to portfolio management, amendments and potential restructurings as well.

  • Superior collaboration and influencing skills – The Deal Lead will be a self-directed, hard-working team player, who contributes to the investment efforts of the IGPC team. The successful candidate will build strong relationships with issuers, industry contacts, financing partners, clients and prospects, as well as internally with colleagues on the investment and legal teams. The ability to take risks and challenge investment views is critical, as is the humility to admit mistakes and a desire to learn from others. The Deal Lead must recognize the benefits of diverse perspectives.  The ability to communicate (both verbally and in writing) and contribute to an open investment dialogue is required.

  • Intellectual curiosity, capacity for differentiated thinking, and a growth mindset – The flexibility and openness to continue learning, evolving, and growing as a Deal Lead is important.  The Deal Lead will have a global perspective and creative approach for analyzing private placement transactions.  Success in this role will open progression opportunities within the IGPC team and broader Wellington.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS 
Additional qualifications and individual characteristics are likely to include:

  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant buy- or sell-side experience in structured finance private debt or credit research, with a focus on structured and asset-backed securities. 

  • Strong academic credentials: an undergraduate degree in finance, economics or accounting is preferred; 

  • Strong bottom-up fundamental approach to research; 

  • Demonstrated expertise in utilizing AI tools to accelerate market, industry, and issuer research, summarize large data sets, and identify patterns that enhance underwriting and monitoring workflows; 

  • Established network in the private debt and structured credit ecosystem including issuers, industry peers, and financing partners; 

  • Track record of developing, negotiating, and monitoring bespoke covenants; 

  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail; 

  • Ability to organize, manage, and prioritize time well;

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and make decisions in the face of uncertainty;

  • Independence of thought, an entrepreneurial nature, and a global perspective;

  • Sound judgment, strong work ethic and highest personal and professional integrity; and

  • Willingness to travel.

Our approach to compensation considers all aspects of total compensation; all employees are eligible to receive salary, variable compensation, and benefits. The base salary range for this position is:

USD 120,000 - 225,000

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered when making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; role; skills and experience; certifications; and education. This range is an estimate, and further details on salary and total compensation aspects will be shared with candidates during the recruitment process.   

 

Base salary is only one component of Wellington’s total compensation approach. Other rewards may include a discretionary Corporate Bonus and/ or Incentives, if eligible.
