Position Purpose:
Performs a variety of duties in and around the buildings of the Hospital complex maintaining and repairing machinery, systems and mechanical equipment, boilers, heating and ventilation equipment, air conditioning and refrigeration systems. Services, operates and maintains the PEVCO and Alteron Control Systems.
What you will do:
Maintains and repairs complete heating and ventilation systems, pumps, machinery, motors, air and vacuum compressors according to established procedures and manufacturer's specifications.
Installs mechanical, HVAC equipment, controls and piping as required.
Participates in on call rotation to provide shift coverage by properly repairing and/or reporting all plant maintenance and emergency requirements and equipment status.
Interprets blueprints, sketches and written/verbal instructions.
Maintains, services and tests PEVCO and Alteron Control Systems according to manufacturer's specifications.
Maintains all tools and equipment properly and inspects for proper function prior to use.
Maintains work area in a clean and neat manner according to department standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must have completed an accredited vocational school trade program or graduated with a high school diploma from a vocational high school. Preferred certificate or diploma in HVAC.
Must have a minimum of 3+ years of HVAC experience. Healthcare facility setting experience is preferred.
D-2 License is required. S-2 is preferred.
Valid State of Connecticut driver’s license is required.
Work requires the ability to resolve complex problems requiring the use of basic scientific, mathematical or technical principals and in-depth, experienced based knowledge.
Work requires the ability to understand and respond to simple written or verbal instructions.
Requires the ability to read and write English.
Physical and Mental Effort:
Requires independently lifting objects up to 50 lbs. and bending and stooping on a regular basis.
Requires climbing – ladders, scaffolding, stairs or ramps requiring a sense of balance to prevent falls.
Requires the ability to reach and grasp objects.
Requires working with equipment in restricted spaces where carelessness could result in cuts, bruises and strains.
Occasional exposure to eye and ear hazards requiring protective equipment. Occasional exposure in close proximity to high electrical voltage which require the use of protective equipment and safe work practices.
Must be willing and able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, masks, eye and ear protection and other equipment as needed.
