As our Human Resources Associate, you will support the Office of the Legal Defender by applying professional knowledge and personal judgment to a variety of HR activities. In this role, you will provide highly responsible, specialized administrative and human resources support to upper-level management and administrative staff, including the effective coordination of recruitment processes, accurate payroll processing, and proactive support for employee relations matters.

We Require
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field
A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis
We Also Value
Experience with payroll processing
Public sector or legal environment Human Resources experience, including recruitment coordination, policy, and procedure, leave and compensation plans, handling investigations and background checks, and familiarity with federal regulations (including ADA, FMLA, FLSA, OSHA, and Workers’ Compensation)
Job Contributions
Provides a full range of services in the areas of recruitment, interviewing, hiring, placement, performance management, leave, and/or other personnel-related activities
Interprets Human Resources policies and procedures and provides advice, direction, and information on a variety of human resources-related matters to employees, supervisors, and upper management
Reviews personnel actions and applies laws, regulations, and policies to determine eligibility and/or compliance with State and Federal laws, Employee Merit System Rules, HR policies, and/or other internal practices
Coordinates the processes for all department hiring, onboarding, and offboarding activities while ensuring compliance with all relevant employment laws and County policies
Prepares and audits complex and sensitive in nature human resources correspondence, documents, and forms supporting personnel actions, position management, compensation, and payroll
Responds to requests for information and assistance from employees, management, outside agencies, and the general public
Recommends improvements in processes or workflow by analyzing current practices
Participates in the implementation of HR policies and procedures
Conducts research, compiles statistical information, and prepares reports as requested
Assists in investigations, gathering data, and report preparation on proposed disciplinary actions and employee grievances
Serves as departmental payroll timekeeper, reviewing and processing bi-weekly payroll
Backs up Telecom Coordinator and Facilities Management Liaison for the department
Provides support to the Legal Defender, Deputy Director, Law Office Administrative Manager, and other members of management
Working Conditions
Work is generally performed in an office setting, with telework and alternative work schedule options available for employees in this position
Interruptions, time pressures, high volumes of work, handling multiple or complicated tasks, unscheduled tasks, accuracy, decision making, concentration, vigilance, teamwork, working in close physical proximity with others, and public contact may be frequent occurrences
May be required to lift 20 pounds from floor to waist, waist to shoulder or shoulder to overhead, and carry 20 pounds a distance of 30 feet
