Job Summary: This position is located in the Office of Human Capital Management and Training (HCT) which is responsible for a comprehensive human resources management program. As a Human Resources Assistant, the incumbent will assist Human Resources Specialists on issues that include the full spectrum of staffing, employee benefits, and classification to support specific organizational components.

Major Duties:

  • As a Human Resources Assistant,GS-0203-7/8, you will perform the following major duties: At the GS-07, in addition to duties at the lower grade level, typical duties may include: Accurately processes personnel/pay actions and determines appropriate documents needed to support transactions ensuring completed actions are forwarded to respective personnel files. Verifies all entries by performing procedural and technical review of completed actions to assure correctness of entries, legal authorities, and remarks. 2. Monitors due dates for various types of personnel actions, i.e., within grade increase, conversions, performance appraisals, expiration date of temporary appointment, salary retention period, etc. and retrieves necessary information to complete actions. 3. Maintain discretion when providing information on status of personnel actions to operating officials. 4. Utilizes the electronic Official Personnel Folder (eOPF) for establishing and/or maintaining accurate up-to-date personnel documents. Requests and consolidates prior service records from other agencies and/or the Personnel Record Center. 5. Conduct recruitment/examining activities for lower-grade positions. At the GS-08, in addition to duties at the lower grade level, typical duties may include Process human resources personnel actions (e.g., appointments, separations, or promotions); reviewing personnel documents for accuracy and compliance; providing customer service on HR Recruitment processes. Assist with new employee orientation sessions. Aids with completion of appointment forms and preparation of documentation for background investigations. Uses HR information systems to input, track, and retrieve data. Provide basic recommendations for the resolution of personnel/payroll problems. Review applications to assess applicants qualifications and prepare appropriate certificate(s). Provide advice and assistance to employees regarding personnel matters

Qualifications: To qualify for this position, you must meet one of the following Basic Requirements: At the GS-07, in addition to duties at the lower grade level, typical duties includes: -One year (1) of experience in either federal or non-federal service that is equivalent to at least a GS-05: Experience working in a Human Resources (HR) office as an assistant supporting HR professionals; utilizing personnel rules, regulations and policies to process payroll and personnel actions in an automated personnel data system; troubleshooting and conducting research for payroll and personnel actions; explaining forms, procedures and technical HR information to employees and new hires; and maintaining files and personnel records. At the GS-8, in addition to duties at the lower grade level, typical duties includes: One year of experience in either federal or non-federal service that is equivalent to at least a GS-07 Process human resources personnel actions (e.g., appointments, separations, or promotions); reviewing personnel documents for accuracy and compliance; providing customer service on HR Recruitment processes. Facilitates new employee orientation sessions. Assists with completion of appointment forms and preparation of documentation for background investigations. Uses HR information systems to input, track, and retrieve data. Provide basic recommendations for the resolution of personnel/payroll problems. Review applications to assess applicant basic qualifications and prepare appropriate certificate(s).
