Job Description:
HR Assistant
Job Disclosures:
Location: (On-Site) Los Angeles, CA
Compensation: The salary range for this position is $62,613 to $70,440. Compensation may vary based on location and experience.
Supports the People & Culture (HR) team with day-to-day operations across benefits, records, onboarding, and employee support. This role keeps processes organized and compliant, provides excellent service to employees and leaders, and helps the department run smoothly during busy cycles like open enrollment and hiring surges.
Respond to internal and external HR inquiries and route/escalate as needed.
Maintain accurate digital/electronic employee records and documentation.
Provide administrative and logistical support to HR leadership (calendars, meetings, reports).
Make departmental purchases, process expenses, and assist with budget tracking.
Coordinate benefits administration (broker/provider liaison, monthly bill audits, issue resolution).
Support annual open enrollment and benefits renewals; prepare employee communications.
Reconcile benefits usage and assist with implementing wellness/education programs.
Assist with workers’ compensation program administration and claims coordination.
Support recruitment and payroll processes as requested.
Onboard new hires into HRIS/benefits systems and facilitate a welcoming first-day experience.
Research and coordinate special projects (e.g., 401(k) and other total rewards initiatives).
Maintain and improve HR SOPs, forms, and knowledge resources.
Assist with monitoring and enforcing compliance with California meal and rest break laws for all non-exempt employees. This includes regularly auditing timekeeping records to identify missed, short, or late meal periods or rest breaks and ensure all premium payments are processed accurately when violations occur.
2+ years of experience in an HR Assistant or similar HR support role.
Knowledge of HR fundamentals (records, benefits, staffing support, payroll basics).
Strong familiarity with the local market, specific to labor and employment issues.
Familiarity with labor/employment regulations and HR best practices.
Strong written and verbal communication; approachable and service-oriented.
Demonstrated organization, time management, and attention to detail under deadlines.
Proficiency with email, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace; quick to learn new systems.
Sound judgment, problem-solving, and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
Interpersonally savvy; works effectively with diverse teams and employee populations.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field.

Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and scanners. This position also works in an indoor setting with exposure to noisy environments, dim lighting, strong visual effects including strobing lights, special effects, fog machines and small and/ or enclosed spaces.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical ability to walk, stand, take stairs/slides/elevators, and navigate the elements during the day and night. Employee may be required to remain in a sitting or standing position for prolonged periods, and repeat motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Work Schedule:
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 9a.m. to 5 p.m. or 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
