The Opportunity:
As an HR Advisor, this role serves as a trusted partner to academic and administrative leaders within the Faculty of Science. Reporting to the Associate Director of Human Resources, the position provides a full range of HR services related to staffing, compensation, benefits administration, organizational design and training and labour/employee relations. It acts as a resource for managers, offering guidance on policies and collective agreements, and contribute to shaping HR initiatives that align with the Faculty’s goals.
Primary Responsibilities:
HR Advisory & Policy Guidance:
Act as a trusted resource for leaders and staff on HR policies, best practices, and procedures.
Guide the day-to-day management of human resources policies and procedures, including academic, non-unionized and unionized groups, the managing of several collective agreements and identification of training and development needs.
Coach managers on handling sensitive conversations and workplace issues.
Advise and influence faculty/department/unit members in the attainment of established goals and objectives and maintaining effective working relationships.
Contribute to the development of the University personnel policies and procedures and their dissemination throughout the faculty/department/unit.
Labour & Employee Relations:
Guide and coach managers on how to solve labour-related issues. Assist managers with performance or disciplinary files when appropriate. Mediate disputes and facilitate conflict resolution as needed.
Manage grievances: investigate background, provide follow-up, and ensure the manager is informed on the evolution of the file. Liaise with the Central Labour and Employee Relations office vis-à-vis the handling of grievances and the arbitration process.
Advise managers on performance issues. Ensure effective administration of probation and performance management processes, including how performance reviews are completed and their outcomes.
Compensation & Organizational Structure:
Participate in the compensation review process. Recommend salary adjustments, hiring salaries and other compensation matters. Ensure that equity is maintained by applying current compensation principles and techniques to make effective recommendations.
Conduct job assessments and recommend changes as appropriate. Manage and prepare requests for match and rematch of positions. Propose and advise on the implementation of structural changes as necessary in accordance with collective agreements, employment legislation, and organizational needs. Negotiate relocation assignments with managers and researchers.
Monitor parity and equity across groups; submit and evaluates anomaly requests.
Recruitment & Special Initiatives:
Support with full-cycle recruitment for clerical, technical and management positions, including onboarding/offboarding. Perform needs analysis and identify appropriate training for staff and managers.
Partner closely with other HR professionals to leverage internal pool of talent currently on career and employment transition.
Conduct exit interviews, analyze turnover data, and recommend initiatives to reduce turnover.
Represent faculty/department/unit at internal and/or external meetings and participate in committees.
Participate in special projects.
Your Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline; an HR Certificate/Diploma is an asset. CRHA certification is a strong asset.
Experience: Five (5) plus years’ experience dealing with human resource-related matters in various activities: labour relations, compensation, recruitment and selection, total compensation and benefits administration, performance and organizational development. Proven experience working in a unionized environment with a strong understanding of collective agreements and policy interpretation, in an academic institution is preferred.

Self-directed yet collaborative, thriving in both independent and team settings.
Comfortable working with Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint). Experience with HR Information Systems like Workday is an asset.
