Project Description:

The NASA Life Sciences Portal (NLSP) is an already implemented system and the established gateway for discovering and accessing all archive data from investigations sponsored by NASA’s Human Research Program (HRP). The HRP’s core mission is to conduct research and develop technologies to ensure humans can travel safely and productively in space.   This system, which is leveraged by the HRP and other programs, utilizes evidence from data collected from astronauts, animals, and plants over many decades. This data is stored in several key repositories accessible via the NLSP, including the Life Sciences Data Archive (LSDA), the Lifetime Surveillance of Astronaut Health (LSAH), and Standard Measures (SM) repositories.

Job Description:

The Human Research Application Product Owner supports the analysis, documentation, and delivery of software solutions for the NASA Life Sciences Portal (NLSP). This role works closely with stakeholders, development teams, and management to ensure requirements are clearly defined, documented, and implemented while supporting Agile development processes and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Gather, analyze, and document business and system requirements for the NASA Life Sciences Portal (NLSP)
  • Help Develop and maintain key documentation, including User Guides, System Architecture documents, and Concept of Operations (CONOPS)
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to elicit requirements and translate them into user stories and acceptance criteria supporting major software releases
  • Facilitate customer meetings, capture detailed notes, and provide clear summaries to track decisions and action items
  • Lead and support Agile ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and backlog grooming
  • Monitor, document, and report project progress to stakeholders and management
  • Prepare and deliver status presentations to leadership
  • Identify process inefficiencies and lead improvement initiatives, including backlog reduction efforts (e.g., bug triage events)
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment across requirements, development, and delivery

Required Skills Sets/Core Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in biological sciences or bioinformatics.  Degrees in information systems, or Computer Science with applicable experience are acceptable.
  • 6+ years of experience in product ownership of biological science research applications supporting government or scientific communities.
  • Strong experience in requirements gathering, analysis, and documentation
  • Strong knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies and SDLC processes
  • Proficiency in writing user stories and defining acceptance criteria
  • Excellent technical writing and documentation skills
  • 2+ years of experience with tools such as Jira, Confluence, or similar platforms
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Experience facilitating meetings and leading discussions
  • Ability to track and report project progress effectively
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Time management and organization

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of web applications development
  • Use of AI and LLM

Basic Compensation:

Houston range: $111,100 - $166,600;

Mountain View range: $131,200 - $196,800

Compensation for this role varies by location. The compensation range for this position is $111,100 – $166,600 for candidates working in Houston, Texas, and $131,200 – $196,800 for candidates working in Mountain View, California. The offered rate will be based on a variety of factors, including contract affordability, the selected candidate’s working location, knowledge, skills, and/or experience, and internal parity. Compensation may vary depending on geographic location and alignment with applicable pay transparency requirements.
