Job Description
Responsibility
The Human Factors Manager must ensure strict compliance and observations of all applicable regulations, standards and procedures with regards to human factors related issues and is responsible to enhance safety in Human Factors through applicable safety programs and/or tools (such as the SMS framework).
His/her functions, duties and responsibilities include:
a. Responsible for the overall development, implementation and continuously improvement of the
following programs, as applicable (but not limited to):
i. Crew Resource Management (CRM).
ii. Fatigue Risk Management System (FRMS).
iii. Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM).
iv. Line Operations Safety Audit (LOSA).
b. Work closely, assist and support department(s) in ensuring all Human factors and/or related programs are established with latest updates to meet applicable regulatory and company requirements.
c. Ensure personnel are in possession of the correct human factors knowledge and skills, given appropriate training, updated on the latest methods, procedures and requirements and are of sufficient strength to accomplish the operational requirements. d. Ensure all human factors facilitators are given appropriate training and continuous enhancements. e. Provide technical expertise from the human factors principles aspect in designing SOP, Operational Manual, checklists and associated procedures align with business objectives and regulatory
requirement.
f. Conduct professional development activities such as reading documents and research materials, attend courses and conferences in order to keep up to date with developments in human factors training.
g. Assist on the conduct of training needs analysis (TNA) on a regular basis in order to ensure existing
training materials is relevant and meets the needs of the human factors training of the operation section.
h. Assist and carryout CISM initial training and recurrent training for peer supporters so as to maintain the required level of readiness to meet operational needs.
i. Monitor and advise the Fatigue management under the Safety Management System.
j. Contributing to the integration of human factors into the SMS to that identified human factors issues and recommendations considered in assessing and treating risk when implementing new processes and procedures.
k. Support the continuous working enhancement so as to increase staff awareness of human factors issues to achieve safety culture through communication and dissemination of human factors related safety information.
l. Identify and recommend where the human factors improvements can be made to minimize the probability of recurrence.
Traits
a. Sound knowledge of the organization’s operations, procedures and activities. b. Broad aviation technical knowledge.
c. An extensive knowledge of safety management systems (SMS) and have completed appropriate SMS training.
d. An understanding of risk management principles and techniques to support SMS.
e. Experience implementing and/or managing SMS.
f. Experience and qualifications in aviation accident/incident investigation and human factors.
g. Experience and qualifications in conducting safety/quality audits and inspections.
h. Sound knowledge of aviation regulatory frameworks, including ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPS) and relevant civil aviation regulations; to communicate at all levels both inside and outside the company.
i. The ability to be firm in conviction, promote a just and fair culture and yet advance an open and non-punitive atmosphere for reporting.
j. The ability and confidence to communicate directly to the head of department as his advisor and confidante.
k. Well-developed communication skills and demonstrated interpersonal skills of a high order, with the ability to liaise with a variety of individuals and organizational representatives, including those from differing cultural backgrounds.
l. Computer literacy and superior analytical skills.
Merits
Minimum working experience:
a. 2 years as Supervisor, Team Leader, Purser, Captain or Engineer with any AirAsia or AirAsia X Group of airlines (CRMI or management experience will be added advantage).
b. minimum 6 months as SAG (or FMT) with any AirAsia or AirAsia X Group of airlines.
OR
a. Experience in aviation safety and/or in the capacity of an aviation safety investigator, safety/quality. manager, safety risk manager, CRM Lead Instructor or Human Factors Manager; and
b. 5 years working in commercial or manufacturing aviation industry, and
c. 2 years in aviation management position, and/or
d. 2 years in aviation safety or quality position.
Education:
Bachelor of Management or Science Degree, or equivalent management studies.
Professional qualifications:
a. Full Safety Management System (SMS) by regulator or authorities or recognized training provider (example IATA, CAAi, etc), and
b. Human Factors or Crew Resource Management Instructor (CRMI).
