About the job

The HS(S)E Head provides oversight and leadership throughout all phases of one of our biggest projects; from basic design to construction and commissioning and process validation. You manage all activities associated with the Project HSE budget, including the negotiation of service agreements and management of associated costs. On top you secure the site license to operate regarding Health, Safety and Environment regulations and permit, avoid administrative notice and lead relationship with external legal Authorities and local stakeholders. Ensure the site’s compliance to all relevant HSE and security regulations and standards (local state, and federal regulations). Act as the primary HSE contact for regulatory authorities and certification bodies.

Main responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, partnership, counsel and technical expertise to project, operations, maintenance and HSE managers, as well as technicians in the field of project/process safety and risk-assessment to attain safety, production, quality, cost and environmental goals. 
  • Integrate process safety from start of the project: use Sanofi standard/templates for HAZOP, training of Engineering contractor, PID review, pre-start health & safety review (PSHSR) programs  
  • Strive for the lowest environmental impact of project and facilities; Identify potential hazards and implement risk mitigation strategies. Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits
  • Identify needs and deliver HSE training programs for all project personnel. Ensure continuous education on safety & environmental practices and regulations. 
  • Set up a specific HSE governance for construction work phases (check-in, check-out, Leading safety rituals, appropriate leading KPIs) and liaise with regulatory bodies, contractors and other stakeholders to ensure alignment
  • ensure investigations are done for any incidents or near-misses. Develop Safety Risk Reports trend analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. 
  • Maintain accurate records of HSE performance metrics. Prepare and present regular reports to project steerco and stakeholders. 

About you

  • Education/Experience: Master’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field; seniority in HSE management, with relevant experience in leadership roles within industrial operations
  • Soft and technical skills: significant HSE experience in important Chemistry/Biotech Construction project; Strong judgement and decision-making are essential (decisions may be final and irreversible from a legal standpoint); High level of mental agility, ability to think strategically and implement strategy
  • Languages: proficiency in german and English required, additional languages as a plus

The salary range for this position is :€88.800,00 - €133.200,00

Final compensation will be determined based on demonstrated experience, skills, location, and other relevant factors. Employees may be eligible to participate in Company employee benefit programs.
