The Role 

The Health, Safety and Environment Manager will play a pivotal leadership role in driving our zero-harm culture. Acting as a visible, proactive, and influential leader, you will champion safety excellence, engage teams at every level, and build a culture where safe behaviours and environmental responsibility are second nature. 

You will lead by example, coach and empower colleagues, and deploy robust systems to ensure legal compliance, minimise risks, and maintain certifications. This role requires a strong blend of technical expertise, leadership capability, and cultural understanding to move the organisation from compliance to excellence. 

 

Working hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Working style: Fully onsite

 

Responsibilities 

Health, Safety & Environmental Leadership 

  • Lead, model and drive behavioural safety culture change across all areas of the business. 

  • Champion “zero harm” and “zero waste” principles through proactive engagement and visible leadership. 

  • Ensure full compliance with HSE legislation, company standards, and safe systems of work. 

  • Embed positive safety habits through hazard identification, near-miss reporting, and proactive intervention. 

  •  Maintain and develop risk assessments and support wellbeing initiatives through regular engagement.

  • Conduct thorough and timely investigations into incidents and non-conformities, ensuring corrective actions are delivered. 

 Continuous Improvement 

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement through coaching, communication, and empowerment. 

  • Identify root causes and deliver corrective and preventative actions. 

  • Lead departmental readiness for audits and ensure all HSE processes remain fit for purpose. 

  • Promote innovation in safety, environmental protection, and systems development. 

People & Leadership 

  • Lead, coach and develop the HSE team, nurturing a high‑performing and engaged function. 

  • Influence, guide and advise senior leaders, managers, and team leaders on risk reduction and safe working. 

  • Act as an ambassador for Genuit’s Purpose and Trademark Behaviours. 

  • Deliver safety briefs, toolbox talks, and training to ensure consistent understanding and capability. 

  • Support cross-functional collaboration and cultivate a culture of open communication around safety.

Specific Role Responsibilities 

  • Lead the development and delivery of the HSE strategy, including ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and SSIP accreditations. 

  • Manage relationships with regulatory bodies (HSE, NRW, local authority, insurers). 

  • Lead environmental initiatives relating to waste reduction, energy efficiency and sustainability. 

  • Maintain legal registers, environmental aspects registers and ensure ongoing legislative compliance. 

  • Manage contractor and supplier HSE performance and ensure robust controls are in place. 

  • Oversee high‑risk area audits such as LOTO, fire safety, workplace transport, legionella and asbestos. 

  •  Drive continuous improvement in incident prevention and lead indicator performance. 

  • Support CDM-related activities and risk-based audits. 

  • Prepare and present HSE performance updates and improvement proposals to senior leadership.

The Person 

You will bring deep expertise in Health, Safety and Environmental leadership, supported by strong technical knowledge and practical experience within complex operational environments. You will be a confident influencer with the credibility to shape decisions and the leadership capability to shift culture, inspire others, and drive continuous improvement. 

 

  • NEBOSH qualification and/or IOSH/IISRM MSc or 10+ years HSE practitioner experience. 

  • Strong experience creating risk assessments, safe systems of work, and method statements. 

  • Experience managing ISO45001 and ISO14001 systems. 

  • Experience liaising with HSE, NRW, insurers and regulatory bodies. 

  • Experience selecting and managing HSE SMEs (DSEAR, EMF, Fire Risk, Occupational Hygiene). 

  • Excellent communication, influencing and leadership skills. 

  • Strong planning, organisation and problem-solving capability. 

  • High attention to detail, resilience, and a commitment to continuous improvement. 

Desirable 

  • Experience within a manufacturing and distribution environment. 

  • Experience operating across multi‑site businesses.
