The Role 
 

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable HSE Manager to support our organization in maintaining a safe and compliant working environment. The HSE Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal requirements and promote a safe working environment.  

This role will lead initiatives to minimize risks, prevent accidents, and foster a culture of safety across the organization.

The HSE manager will be required to work where necessary across our 3 sites in Honiton and Exeter. Hours will be 40 hours per week and will require flexibility. Some travel may be required to attend company health and safety meetings.


Responsibilities 
 

  • Lead, model and drive behavioral safety culture change across all areas and at all levels of the business. 

  • Develop, implement, and monitor Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures. 

  • Champion “zero harm” and “zero waste” principles through proactive engagement and visible leadership. 

  • Embed positive safety habits through hazard identification, near-miss reporting, and proactive intervention.  

  • Promote innovation in safety, environmental protection, and systems development. 

  • Lead the development and delivery of the HSE strategy, including ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and SSIP accreditations 

  • Oversee highrisk area audits such as LOTO, fire safety, workplace transport, legionella and asbestos 

  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety regulations. 

  • Perform risk assessments and recommend mitigation strategies. 

  • Investigate incidents and accidents and prepare detailed reports with corrective actions. 

  • Provide relevant training and support to employees and contractors. 

  • Maintain records of safety incidents, training, and compliance activities. 

  • Ensure compliance with local, national, and industry-specific HSE regulations. 

  • Support emergency response planning and drills. 

  • Collaborate with management to drive continuous improvement in HSE performance. 

The Person

  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent health and safety qualification. 

  • Strong experience creating risk assessments, safe systems of work, and method statements. 

  • Experience liaising with HSE, NRW, insurers and regulatory bodies. 

  • Experience within a manufacturing and distribution environment. 

  • Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards. 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

  • Ability to conduct training and influence safety behavior. 

  • Proficiency in incident investigation and reporting. 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
