Reporting to the HSE Manager, the HSE Coordinator supports the project team in safe production throughout the lifecycle of a project. They will ensure work tasks are performed safely in accordance with the company standards and applicable Occupational Health and Safety Legislation and that work is performed with the right safeguards in place.

This a field-based position based on project site in Abbotsford, BC. The candidate must be local to Abbotsford/Vancouver area.

What You Will Be Working On

  • Incident management, initiate notifications and ensure all incidents/accidents are reported, investigated, and properly documented.

  • Conduct orientations for new workers and visitors and provide training for Bird employees.

  • Validate equipment, processes, and worker competency; and inspect onsite safety equipment.

  • Perform frequent site inspections, address HSE issues, and complete all required documentation.

  • Develop reports, research HSE information, and support the team in hazard identification and the development of site‑specific Job Hazard Analysis JHA(s).

  • Drive company safety initiatives onsite and support the production team in effectively implementing these initiatives.

  • Review activities of new trades to ensure compliance with HSE requirements.

  • Evaluate changing site conditions with Bird Project Management to identify and address new or emerging risks.

  • Collaborate with trade partner representatives to address safety concerns and resolve issues.

  • Strong experience managing safety in both industrial and commercial projects

What We Are Looking For

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills: Ability to forge and maintain positive relationships, work collaboratively with a positive attitude, team first mentality

  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills

  • 5+ years of relevant HSE experience

  • NCSO certification, CRST/P (or working towards) is preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of commercial construction

  • Valid Class 5 drivers license w/ an abstract in good standing

  • Effective multitasking and time management: Capable of managing multiple priorities, working within tight deadlines, and handling pressure in a dynamic environment

  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities: Demonstrates strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
