Position Summary

The HR team is responsible for the effective delivery of key strategic and operational services and projects that support RMIT Vietnam’s strategic direction; facilitates a culture of change and innovation and builds staff capability and ongoing engagement.  The HR Business Partner is responsible for aligning business objectives with employees and management across allocated Schools and Departments within the University. The position is also responsible for driving the implementation of HR policies and processes, change management and employee engagement in the designated business areas. The role formulates partnerships across HR team to deliver value-added service to management and employees that reflects the business objectives of the University.

Reporting Line

Reports to: Senior Manager - Partnering and Employee Relations

Key Accountabilities

Stakeholder Engagement and HR Advisory:

  • Represent Human Resources at key Division leadership/management forums and meetings. 
  • Take ownership with Division Executives for key people strategies and activities.
  • Interpret HR policies and provide timely and trusted advice to senior executives, managers and employees.
  • Identify, design and implement HR strategies and solutions to achieve agreed outcomes in the Divisions and the President Office. 
  • Work in partnership with specialist HR functions (recruitment, training, operations and services) to deliver value-added service to the client groups.
  • Develop effective, collaborative relationships and networks with all internal clients and external stakeholders
  • Be part of the Job Evaluation panel to conduct job evaluation processes to assess role responsibilities, determine appropriate job grades, and ensure internal equity and alignment with organizational job classification frameworks and market benchmarks.

Organizational Development:

  • Identify the needs of the organization in order to achieve maximum performance efficiencies  
  • Facilitate Management of change process.  

Talent Management and Performance Management:

  • Manage and analyse data into a compelling story in order to help Divisions manage and understand the various nuances of their workforce
  • Participate in the selection process of senior management and key hires
  • Conduct Induction sessions for new employees and new appointed managers (both internal and external).
  • Conduct annual Talent Review of Professional staff in conjunction with Executive Directors of Divisions  
  • Provide advice and counsel to managers and employees on all performance related issues, including program management of high growth talent, development roadmaps, succession planning, compensation strategies and performance improvement.

Employee Relations and Engagement:

  • Educate managers and employees on all aspects of employee-related issues, including manager/employee issues, policies & procedures, misconduct, investigations, terminations, appeals, internal audits, etc.
  • Work closely with management and employees to improve work relationship, build morale and increase productivity and retention. 
  • Undertake employee relations activities such as staff grievances, investigations and escalations as approved by the HR Director or Division Leadership
  • Analyse employee survey results and work with Division management on their action plan

Other duties:

  • As a HR team member, contribute to develop and/or enhance policies, procedures and systems to support HR ‘best practice”
  • Design, contribute to and conduct analysis of standard HR dashboard data specific to client group and monitor trends across the University
  • Develop, lead and work on special and cross-functional projects or activities as directed by Manager.

Key Selection Criteria

  • A bachelor’s degree in human resources, or a related business or management discipline
  • At least 8 years of generalist HR business partner or similar 
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in managing, consulting and advising on a broad range of HR issues.
  • Proven ability to partner, plan and implement programs that support strategic outcomes, issue resolution and risk mitigation.
  • Excellent knowledge of Vietnam Labour Code and application within a complex working environment
  • Willingness to adapt to change and the evolving future state of workforces. Being open to process improvement and automation where warranted.
  • Knowledge and exposure of working for a multi-functional, multi-national employer, understanding of the specific challenges of a wide representative group of multi-cultural employees. 
  • Demonstrated experience in collaborating with a diverse team of HR professionals to deliver a high level of service.
  • Proven ability to effectively negotiate with and influence clients and stakeholders to support and achieve strategic outcomes.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, with proven ability to influence and engage at all levels of an organisation.
  • Skilled at building effective relationships and communicate with a diverse range of people internal and external to the University.
  • Outstanding service ethic and commitment to problem solving, innovating and addressing the specific needs of the client group.
  • Willingness to be hands-on and ability to implement practical HR solutions to complex workforce issues.
  • Sound understanding of HRIS data management and HR reporting practices and data analysis.
  • Ability to display appropriate behaviours in line with the position and RMIT Values.

English Proficiency

English is the language of teaching and communication at RMIT Vietnam. For this role, the minimum requirement is IELTS with a score of at least 6.5 (or equivalent, as outlined in the Recruitment, Selection and Onboarding Guidelines).
