The role:

Human Resources plays a critical role in supporting Northern Trust’s most important asset—its people. The function partners with the business to attract, develop, engage and retain talent while ensuring compliance with policies, practices and regulatory requirements. The HR Business Partner acts as a strategic liaison between business leadership, Senior HRBPs, HR Advisors and HR Centres of Expertise (Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, Talent Management, HR Operations and Employee Relations). The role partners closely with leaders to ensure HR solutions are aligned to business needs and strategy. Reporting to the Global Senior HRBP, you will coach and advise senior managers on key HR priorities, including engagement, manager capability, and workforce initiatives aligned to broader people and business strategies.

This role is based in our Limerick office, operating under a hybrid working model.

Key responsibilities:

  • Plays a key role consulting with managers on talent assessment, succession planning, performance management, and compensation planning activities; proactively translates enterprise strategy into BU/region people plans.

  • Leads RIF activity for client group and helps managers implement change management support resulting from people impact; plays a key role in managing RIF activity overall for EMEA region (cross functionally).

  • Assesses the need for HR services with client groups as necessary and leads implementation.

  • Provides guidance and problem solving on escalated employee relations matters including dispute resolution, disciplinary actions, regulatory compliance, and litigation avoidance.

  • Ensures compliance on all HR related company guidelines and policies, as well as compliance with all regional, country, local, and company regulations and participates in ER activities when they arise due to non-compliance.

  • Attends relevant client team meetings to ensure HR actions support key business needs, providing updates on HR initiatives and programs.

  • Maintains a strong awareness of Talent Acquisition activities to help achieve a high quality, diverse talent pipeline.

  • Participates in functional and cross-functional initiatives across HR.

  • Serves as expert or go to person often handling complex, high profile, and sensitive work.

  • Exercises judgment based on the analysis of multiple sources of information

  • Impacts a range of client, operational, project or service activities within own team and other related teams

  • Works within broad guidelines and policies

Skills and experience:

  • Significant experience (typically 10+ years) operating in a HR Business Partner or comparable role.

  • Strong consulting and advisory capability with proven experience coaching senior leaders.

  • Ability to analyse data, assess risk and apply sound judgment to inform and influence decision‑making.

  • Deep domain expertise across HR policy, practice and process, with a strong understanding of how HR disciplines integrate.

  • Highly collaborative relationship manager with foundational knowledge of workforce planning and organisational design.

  • Effective communicator with the ability to explain complex or sensitive information, build consensus and lead change initiatives.

  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems, apply best practices and act as a resource for less experienced colleagues.

  • Experience leading or contributing to small projects with manageable risk and resource requirements.

  • Strong awareness of the external market and competitive environment.
