Job Family Definition:

Our team delivers scientific computing and data-shared infrastructure services in several locations. We incubate, develop, and support new solutions to support our research and development organizations to enable science.

The position involves working with our scientists on Linux based application needs and translating these to core infrastructure demands provided.

The position requires knowledge of Linux system administration, High Performance Compute experience and a DevOps approach to platform administration, ensuring continuous improvement.

Activities

  • Support operational platform activities on Linux systems, high performance computing (HPC), laboratory workstations and servers (focus on availability, tuning, performance, efficiency, change management).

  • Delivery of the scientific Linux application environment with a DevOps approach to platform administration.

  • Contribute to workflow and job support and submission optimization activities.

  • Engage with customers and stakeholders to improve the whole lifecycle of services—from inception and design through deployment, operation and refinement.

  • Look for continuous improvement activities in technical, teamwork, collaboration and processes areas. Propose and contribute to continuous improvement activities.

Profile description

  • 10+ years of experience of working as a systems Engineer in High Performance Computing cluster environment.

  • Experience with Workload managers like Slurm or LSF (Load sharing facility)

  • Background with storage file systems like GPSF (General Parallel File System by IBM) or Lustre

  • Linux Server technologies (RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu plus Satellite / Foreman, Podman);

  • Infiniband network infrastructure

  • Ticketing tools - ServiceNow and Jira

  • Grafana monitoring

  • Wide experience applying infrastructure automation tools, infrastructure as a code, scripting languages, logging, monitoring and observability, infrastructure configuration, and applications; Infrastructure as code: AWX, Ansible, Jenkins, Puppet or equivalents.

  • Coding and scripting: PHP, Python, YAML, shell or equivalents

  • Distributed version control and source code management tools: GIT, bitbucket, github, gitlab or equivalents.

  • Monitoring and observability (e.g. LogicMonitor, Nagios, Ganglia, ELK).

  • Experience working according to DevOps principles, processes and tools as well as experience applying design thinking, lean, prioritization and agile methodologies to evolve services offered to partners.

  • Experience on Linux build and packaging tools (Make, CMake, Easybuild, RPM, Yum), working with installing and configuring scientific applications  (e.g. Schrodinger, Moe, Bowtie, Gromacs, R, Python, Matlab, Topspin, Pipeline Pilot.

  • GPU for high-performance computing and AI workloads.

Working hours:

Shifts (EMEA and US time zone shifts, 9h each)

08:00 CET to 17:00 CET Monday to Friday (including bank holidays)

17:00 CET to 02.00 CET Monday to Friday (including bank holidays)

On call during out-of-business hours.

Cover planned maintenances on demand when required (including out of service business hours and weekends)
