The Opportunity
The Housing Maintenance Technician reports to the Housing Maintenance Foreman and is responsible for performing a wide range of general maintenance tasks to support the upkeep of university-managed residence halls and apartments. Duties include plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and minor masonry repairs, as well as maintaining clean and safe work areas. The role requires adherence to safety standards, the ability to use job-related tools and equipment, and collaboration with supervisors to identify and address maintenance needs.

Required Education and Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or GED with proficiency in grammar, spelling, basic composition, and mathematics.
Required Licenses, Certifications, and/or Clearances:
Must possess and maintain a valid, US driver’s license. In some instances, a valid Class C (CDL) license may be required.
Must meet the University’s standards for approved drivers. Unacceptable driving records (as stated in the Use of Equipment and Vehicles Procedure 1.17) include the following (for three years from the date of each occurrence):
Three (3) or more at-fault accidents and/or moving violations in the previous 36 months.
Two (2) or more at-fault accidents or two (2) or more moving violations in the past year.
Conviction for driving while impaired (DWl, DUl within the last five (5) years).
Conviction for death by vehicle, hit and run, racing, careless and reckless driving, implied consent in the previous five (5) years.
Serious violations result in immediate disqualification and revocation of driver privileges. The following are examples of serious violations:
Speeding over 15 mph of the posted limit, driving under the Influence of alcohol or drugs, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless or careless driving, Use of vehicle in (drug trafficking, reckless homicide, soliciting), unlawful use of weapons, driving under suspension or revocation, fleeing a police officer, vehicle theft, Improper or illegal lane change, following too close, and passing a stopped school bus while stop sign is engaged.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Strong analytical skills with in-depth knowledge of information systems and technical proficiency with Microsoft operating systems. General understanding of hazardous chemicals and OSHA standards. Ability to read blueprints, perform simple calculations, and maintain accurate records. Proficiency in using job-related tools and equipment. Ability to distinguish colors and finishes.
Additional Physical Demands:
Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds; standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders and/or scaffolding; and working in overhead areas. Must possess normal vision, hearing, and physical dexterity, with strong eye-hand coordination for the safe operation of power tools and equipment.
Required Experience:
One to three years of related work experience.
