Job Summary: This position is located within Environmental Services (EVS) of the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC). The primary purpose of this position is to exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in supporting and performing tasks associated with the EMS goals and objectives. Tours of duty may vary depending on the internal department needs with weekdays, weekends, day and evening sift schedules.

Major Duties:

  • Major Duties: Assigning staff for routine and non routine on a daily and project by project basis. Reorganizing work schedules efficiently to ensure work is accomplished in a timely manner. Coordinate work with supervisors of other services within the position area of jurisdiction and not to interrupt patient care. Cleaning patient areas, and corridor spaces throughout the medical center, operating rooms, and all other areas assigned. Assuring efficient and economical accomplishment of work assignments of subordinate within established policies and schedules set by higher levels of supervision. Plan daily and weekly assignments, scheduling period work areas of responsibility, taking into consideration the availability of personnel and equipment. Train staff and ensure they are using patient centered care principles in terms of customer service to patients, family members and personnel. On the job training for subordinates upon individual needs. Provide special direction to new employees. Scheduled regular meetings with staff to provide information on new directives or procedures. Keeps supervisor informed of staff condition, unusual occurrences or other matters that should be brought to their attention. Keep staff abreast of proper methods, equipment use and procedures. Ensures all safety regulations are being followed. Approves leave requests for subordinates, counsels employees and recommends disciplinary actions to higher level supervisor. Routinely inspects areas to ensure timely completion, sanitation levels are maintained, equipment properly cared for and Housekeeping objectives are maintained. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
