Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:    

  • Clean, organize, and sanitize all restrooms including but not limited to fixtures, showers, toilets, bathtubs, sinks, partitions, utility sinks, sani-cans, shower curtains, and mirrors. Replace shower curtains and restock restroom supplies as needed.
  • Clean and organize assigned areas, including but not limited to: common areas, student rooms, and guest rooms.  Dust, rearrange and spot clean furniture and furnishings as needed.  High dust all woodwork, pipes, and fixtures in all corridors.
  • Clean, sweep, dry mop, wet mop all tile hard floors and stairs. Vacuum all carpeted surfaces.
  • Clean, organize, and sanitize all kitchenettes.
  • Clean and organize all guest rooms, change bed linens as necessary
  • Empty wastebaskets and comply with college recycling practices. Bring all waste to the proper collection site.
  • Report all necessary maintenance and repair items to the senior housekeeper  or supervisor, and assist in documenting damages.
  • Complete assigned project work, including but not limited to cleaning fireplaces, dusting vent and light covers, check and clean all fire extinguishers, vacuuming draperies, washing woodwork, washing interior  windows and piano keys.
  • Maintain all cleaning tools and equipment, as well as, ensuring to keep adequate stock of supplies
  • Participate in team cleaning to provide support the operation initiate teamwork, collaboration and cooperation between co-workers.
  • Assist with moving and/or rearranging furniture as needed.
  • Must comply with cleaning frequency requirements as scheduled for your assigned areas.
  • Train weekend Student Workers and offer guidance to students who request equipment or supplies for cleaning their rooms. Assist student workers for Reunion and other college events.
  • Project a positive public image with all members of the college community. Communicate accurately and appropriately with other departments on campus as necessary. Exercise discretion in dealing with members of the College Community and guests as it pertains to the operations of all college services.
  • Assist in emergency cleanup as needed. 
  • Review and implement department notices. Attend training sessions, workshops, and meetings as assigned. 
  • Complete required payroll and scheduling forms within deadlines.
  • Perform all other related and relevant tasks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

  • High school/vocational diploma, GED equivalent or combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year (preferred) housekeeping/custodial experience in a service related industry.
  • Must comply with all state and federal guidelines applicable to custodial personnel in an institutional setting.
  • Must be able to pass a C.O.R.I check.

Skills:

  • Individuals hired or transferring into this position will be required to complete training and demonstrate proficiency in accessing the internet, using the Smith email system, payroll systems and the work order System.
  • Must possess a proven track record of good attendance, punctuality and good judgment to take appropriate, independent action to carry out the primary functions of the job.
  • Must be able to work in hot, humid, or dusty conditions and be able to withstand exposure to, and use of, cleaning chemicals without adverse reactions.
  • Know and have a basic understanding of the chemicals and processes used in the cleaning schedule; be familiar with chemical safety and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Know the cleaning schedule for all assigned areas.
  • Must be able to kneel, crouch, and bend repetitively for extended periods.
  • Must be able to safely lift, carry, and move materials up to thirty (30) pounds, as well as reach overhead  on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to safely climb step ladders, multiple flights of stairs, and be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Must be able to operate housekeeping tools and equipment safely.
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to read and understand basic operating instructions for equipment and chemicals.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete assigned tasks successfully.

Compensation

In addition to a competitive benefits package, pay for this role is typically between $22.91 - $25.45 hourly covering the middle half of market compensation. Actual compensation will vary based on individual qualifications.
