The Section on Hospital Medicine is seeking a physician leader with experience in operations, finance, and quality to serve as Medical Director of Hospital Medicine at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist - Davie Medical Center. The successful candidate will lead the hospital medicine team and report to the Section Chief / Specialty Medical Director for Hospital Medicine – Wake Area.

Specific expectations for the position include but are not limited to the following:

Operations

  • Create synergy and collaboration within Wake Forest Baptist Health System with regards to patient care
  • Collaborate with the local Davie Medical Center leadership including (but not limited to) the President, CMO and CNO
  • Collaborate with the Section Chief on hospital medicine and Director – Faculty Clinical Operations.
  • Provide leadership and direction for the hospital medicine provider team at Davie Medical Center
  • Develop effective communication with attending physicians, advanced practitioners, subspecialists, surgical colleagues, emergency room colleagues and primary care providers
  • Develop and implement hospital medicine provider coverage model for 32-bed medical unit at Davie (to include Advanced Care beds)
  • Oversight of DMC Advanced Care beds and partnering with the WFBH Critical Care shared service as well as Advanced ICU Care.

Quality

  • Ensure that physicians and advanced practitioners are meeting clinical and quality expectations
  • Manage the hospital medicine group to ensure core measures and patient experience metrics are met           

Education

  • Ensure that the hospitalist and advanced practitioners at Davie Medical Center are provided opportunities to teach and learn evidence based medicine

Financial        

  • Manage the budget and finances with the administrative team for the hospital medicine group at Davie Medical Center
  • Ensure that billing is completed in a timely manner
  • Ensure that coding and documentation are done accurately

As a Hospitalist within the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist system, you'll be an integral part of a dedicated healthcare team, collaborating with physicians, nurses, case managers, specialists, and clinical pharmacists to ensure safe and effective patient care during hospital stays. Your role involves admitting patients, closely monitoring patient progress and making necessary treatment adjustments, and engaging in meaningful discussions with patients and their families about their care. Additionally, you'll facilitate seamless communication with the patient's primary care team and provide essential medical records to support their ongoing treatment.

Position Information:

  • Full-time, Clinical Adjunct Faculty position
  • Cover day shifts at Davie Medical Center, which is a 50-bed community hospital with 36 medicine beds, in Bermuda Run, North Carolina
    • Admitting and consultation responsibilities
    • Cross-coverage of all ward patients, including but not limited to assessing patients and developing appropriate plans as needed for any acute events of changes in patient status and good communication with nursing
    • Determine patients that require transfer to tertiary hospital and facilitating such transfer
    • No ICU
  • Respond to Rapid Responses and CODES for your patients
  • Coordinating with Nursing Staff and responding to questions/concerns overnight
  • Provide appropriate hand-off/sign-out at the conclusion of their shift to the day team
  • Procedural skills not required
  • EPIC electronic medical records

Position Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited medical school and ACGME-accepted Internal Medicine residency program.
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Internal Medicine.
  • Active license to practice as physician from NC Med Board.
  • ACLS certification.
