We invite Physician Assistants and Acute Care Nurse Practitioners to join our Hospital Medicine team supporting inpatient rehabilitation services at Atrium Health Pineville Rehabilitation Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina.
This role is ideal for APPs who thrive in a collaborative, consultative environment and value continuity of care for medically complex rehab patients.
Position details
• Full-time, 7-on / 7-off schedule
• Day shift, 11-hour shifts: 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM, with pager coverage until 7:00 PM
• No call requirements
• 100% inpatient adult medicine
• Consulting service only (Rehabilitation-focused patient population)
• Virtual physician supervision on weekends
• On-site physician support Monday–Friday
• 2–3 years of inpatient experience preferred

Job summary
The Hospital Medicine Rehabilitation APP provides specialty medical consultation and ongoing management for patients admitted to inpatient rehabilitation. This role focuses on the medical needs of acute and chronically ill adults undergoing rehabilitation, working in close partnership with PM&R physicians, hospitalists, therapists, nursing, and interdisciplinary care teams.
Essential functions
• Perform initial and ongoing medical histories, physical examinations, and daily assessments
• Manage and document medical conditions impacting rehabilitation progress
• Develop, implement, and adjust treatment plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team
• Order, review, and interpret laboratory and diagnostic studies
• Write appropriate prescriptions and administer medications within scope of practice
• Perform minor medical procedures as indicated
• Document all patient encounters, assessments, interventions, and plans of care in the medical record
• Act as a patient advocate and support care coordination across services
• Participate in team meetings, quality initiatives, and policy development as requested
Position qualifications
• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
• Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant required
• Active North Carolina licensure (or eligible)
• Current prescriptive authority and DEA license (or eligible)
• BLS required per policy guidelines
• Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, medically complex rehab environment
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
Education & certification requirements
Acute Care Nurse Practitioner: Master’s or Doctorate in Nursing Practice required; active RN license and Acute Care board certification appropriate to patient population
Physician Assistant
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program required
Physical requirements
Work requires standing, walking, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds and respond appropriately in stressful or urgent clinical situations. Requires intact vision, hearing, speech, and fine motor skills.
