The listed pay range or pay rate reflects compensation for a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) position. Actual compensation may differ depending on assigned hours and position status (e.g., part-time).

Position Overview

Responsible for daily oversight of the CDI program, ensuring accurate, complete, and compliant clinical documentation that supports quality reporting, severity of illness (SOI), risk of mortality (ROM), patient safety indicators, and appropriate reimbursement. This role supervises CDI staff, monitors productivity and quality outcomes, supports physician engagement, and collaborates with coding, quality management and revenue cycle leadership. The Hospital CDI Supervisor is a highly experienced documentation expert responsible for assisting in developing, delivering, and leading education programs.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:    Graduate of an accredited school of nursing program. Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) or Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP) credential required.
Experience:    Four years’ recent clinical experience in an acute care setting, preferably MED/ICU or ICU, or three years’ clinical documentation improvement specialist experience in a hospital setting, plus one year in a supervisory or managerial role.
Other Credentials:    Registered Nurse - NJ
Knowledge and Skills:    Demonstrated expertise in clinical documentation improvement. Ability to leverage clinical skillset to perform clinical validation reviews
Special Training:    Knowledge of 3M coding and reimbursement software, CDI. Extensive analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills. Extensive clinical knowledge.
Mental, Behavioral and Emotional Abilities:    Ability to work with medical staff leadership as well as physicians and non-physician practitioners. Ability to work independently to solve complex issues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Supervises day-to-day operations of Clinical Documentation Improvement staff including personnel issues and workflow processes. Interviews, hires, trains and disciplines staff in an effort to provide a productive work environment
Assists management with Clinical Documentation Improvement performance metrics, monitoring staff performance and implementing strategies for continuous improvement in accordance with industry standards.
Educates physicians and key healthcare providers regarding clinical documentation improvement and importance of accurate and complete documentation in the medical record. Performs formal physician education sessions
Assists leadership in collaborating with medical staff leadership as well as all clinical areas to promote and facilitate documentation improvement.
Participates in analysis and trending of DRG and Query statistical data for specified patient populations to identify opportunities for improvement. Assists with preparation and presentation of clinical documentation monitoring/trending reports for review with hospital leadership and physicians.
Partners with coding professionals to ensure accuracy of diagnostic and procedural data as well as completeness of supporting documentation to determine a working and final DRG, severity of illness, and/or risk of mortality.
Partners with coding and HIM operations team members to monitor the accuracy and compliance of queries, query response turnaround times, and evaluate trends for performance improvement initiatives.
Assists in development of policies and procedures to increase department accuracy and efficiency through prompt identification and resolution of routine and complex documentation issues.
Collaborate with CDI leadership to refine workflows, policies, and documentation standards and interpret data trends. Leverage CDI software for case prioritization, query management, and analytics.
Prioritizes appropriately work responsibilities this position oversees and effectively manages fluctuating workflow demands.
Maintains knowledge of all federal, state, and local documentation guidelines and communicates changes to all CDI staff.
