Air Liquide Healthcare Australia are a leading and dedicated supplier of medical gases, homecare and sleep services. We specialise in respiratory diseases and have a strong reputation in sleep diagnostics and CPAP therapy.
The main objective of this position is to deliver medical equipment, medical oxygen cylinders and associated products and services to patients and health professionals. The Home Healthcare Technician (HHCT) also provides patients with a comprehensive set-up, including patient education, and on-going support service as well as reviewing and maintaining the equipment on a regular basis. The HHCT follows delivery/maintenance runs that are scheduled daily by the region’s customer service team. The HHCT’s also have to perform regular on-call duties to assist patients in case of breakdown outside of standard business hours.3. Job Accountabilities
Patient set-up & Education
a) Provide superior patient set-up and education as per the Company facility manuals and policies
b) Organise the set-up of the patient with the medical equipment as per prescription. This includes home oxygen, home diagnostics, and CPAP/Bi-level machines with mask fitting service
c) Provide a comprehensive instruction program detailing the safe use and daily maintenance of the equipment and associated consumables. Issue the relevant set-up information kit to the patient and provide details for them to seek additional assistance when required. Explain the after hour on-call procedure, depending on the type of customer (private, DVA, etc) and the type of medical equipment they use
d) Ensure that the patient and carer (if applicable) understand the safety requirements and operating instructions by guiding them through the patient checklist
e) Use the opportunity of each visit to the patient to reinforce safety instructions and provide additional education, using the relevant checklist
f) Reiterate the Doctor’s therapy instructions (as per prescription)
g) Inform patient and carer (if applicable) of additional products or services they may be interested in (portable oxygen, mask replacement, etc.) according to marketing programs and management instructions
Delivery and Admin
h) Take responsibility for safe driving and keeping their vehicle in good condition in compliance with Company policies. Adhere with all road rules and Company policies related to operating a vehicle and Company owned vehicles
i) Deliver such items as medical equipment, medical gas cylinders and other medical supplies to patients' place of residence (including private homes and nursing homes), and other locations as scheduled for them. Load and unload delivery vehicle according to Company policy
j) Deliver medical gases to Health Professionals
k) Order stock (rental and sale items) for the delivery vehicle on a regular basis to ensure that it is adequately stocked to cover the needs of the daily runs. The HHCT’s working in branches also have the responsibility to order stock on a regular basis to cover the needs of the branch
l) Take responsibility for all stock (rental and sale items) delivered or picked-up. Audit current stock with the customer at the time of delivery and indicate on the tablet (Mobi) any need for stock holding adjustments
m) Collect details for payment from customers paying privately (direct debit authorisation) on first delivery
n) Use the provided tablet (Mobi) on a daily basis as per Company procedures. Record on Mobi full details of transaction at the time each job is performed. Make sure the patient/carer signs all relevant paperwork as per Company policies. Collect all required paperwork for billing and filing purposes.
n) Take note of any customers orders, instructions, comments and complaints and report them on Mobi and/or directly to the Operations Manager/Home Healthcare Operations Manager
Technical, Hygiene and Regulatory
o) Make sure the equipment delivered to the patient works within product specifications at the time of delivery
p) Perform preventive maintenance of medical equipment according to Company procedures and following schedules provided by the customer service team or the Operations Manager/Home Healthcare Operations Manager
q) When doing a delivery or a preventive maintenance, check the holdings and the condition of the consumables including the regulator seals when applicable. Make recommendations for consumables replacement
r) Perform visual inspection of some of the medical equipment, check serial numbers against patient holding records and maintenance due dates as per Company procedures.
s) Strictly comply with Company hygiene procedures
t) HHCT’s working from branches are also requested to recycle rental/trial equipment between patients through a Quality Assurance and Quality Control procedure
u) Comply at all times with ALH policies and procedures and with all regulatory standards and legislations applicable to the role
v) Other duties & responsibilities as delegated by the Direct Manager
Decisions
Take sufficient time for each set-up to ensure that patient and/or carer have understood all instructions on the safe usage of equipment and have understood the after-hours call procedure and the cylinder reordering process (if applicable)
Make any request for adjustments required to correct customer holdings as per actual quantities audited
Make the necessary breaks to ensure safe driving throughout the day. If a run happens to be too long to safely drive back home on the same day, liaise with Operations Manager to discuss options.

Valid driver’s license (as per vehicle allocated) and safe driving record essential
Ability to read, analyse and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
Ability to solve practical problems and to interpret an extensive variety of instructions, and manage competing demands and follow tasks to completion in a safe manner
Good customer service skills. Pleasant, polite manner when speaking on the phone or in person with patients and colleagues. Ability and patience to effectively present information to patients and/or carers
HSC or equivalent and preferably a minimum of two years experience in a similar role.
Previous distribution or technical experience preferred.
Good general literacy, written and oral.
Basic computer literacy including GMail. Ability, with provision of adequate training, to use PDA and to process simple transactions into our internal information system.
Flexible work outlook.
This position requires good general fitness as it involves lifting and/or moving up to 25Kg in weight (10% of the day) as well as long distance/hours driving.
