Position Overview:

This is a limited-term position with an anticipated duration of approximately six months.

Integrates knowledge, theory and practice to properly execute procedures in assigned areas of Pathology. Maintains competence in all routine histology procedures (e.g., embedding, sectioning, and routine automated staining) and advanced histology procedures (e.g., immunohistochemistry and histochemical staining); routine maintenance; slide/stain quality control; and basic troubleshooting. Duties may include receiving, preparing, archiving and/or retrieving specimen/material; preparing and or stocking department supplies and reagents; performing quality assurance tasks; producing frozen sections from specimens; and conducting training for routine histology practices.

EDUCATION:

HS Diploma: High School Diploma or General Education (GED)

 

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

1 year recent relevant experience.


SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge/Skills: Demonstrated advanced knowledge and technical competence in specimen collection and preparation, laboratory operations, and quality assurance in histology.

Quantity of Work: Ability to organize and prioritize job duties and assigned tasks for completion within expected time-frames.

Quality of Work: Ability to accurately, precisely, and reliably perform job duties and assigned tasks. Demonstrates sound judgment and problem solving relevant to assigned duties.

Culturally Competent Communication: Ability to compassionately and effectively interact individuals and groups of diverse ages, backgrounds, values, beliefs and behaviors.

Workflow Management: Ability to appropriately respond to fluctuations in volume, unexpected situations or problems such as equipment or information system failures,shift-to-shift hand-offs, priority test orders, and specimen integrity issues.

Adherence to Practices & Procedures: Ability to follow standard practices, processes, and procedures in sequence. Knowledge of applicable local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures aimed at ensuring the privacy and safety of patients.

Pay Range is $49.10 to $61.37 / hour

The compensation range may vary based on the geographic location where the position is filled. Total compensation considers multiple factors, including, but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, departmental equity, training, and organizational needs.
