Axle is looking to add a driven, flexible, organized, and meticulous Histology Technician to our dynamic team at the National Institute of Allergy and Infection Diseases (NIAID), Integrated Research Facility (IRF) in Frederick, MD.

 

Technical Requirements:

  • Provide histology services are required to support animal studies, such as providing necropsy support to the pathologists and for ordering and maintaining stock of chemicals, reagents, antibodies, and supplies required for necropsy and histology support.
  • Assist in scanning slides, organizing the digital pathology database, and performing basic digital analysis of slides as requested by pathologists.
  • Perform molecular pathology assays and experiments such as: in situ hybridization (ISH), special applications of histology (e.g. special stains) and immunohistochemistry (IHC).
  • Operates in the BSL-4 laboratory.
  • Performs tissue embedding, sectioning and mounting protocols.
  • Conducts histology, immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization protocols.
  • Assists pathologists during necropsies.
  • Assist with developing SOPs for new assays and technologies.

 

Specific Qualifications / Experience: 

  • Minimum of a full 4-year course of study from an accredited college or university leading to a B.S. or higher degree in a relevant field
  • Minimum of 3 years work in a histology laboratory
  • Histotechnologist (HTL) certification preferred

  • Previous recent BSL-3 or BSL-4 experience preferred.

This role has a market-competitive salary with an anticipated base compensation range listed below. Actual salaries will vary depending on a candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, and location.
