The listed pay range or pay rate reflects compensation for a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) position. Actual compensation may differ depending on assigned hours and position status (e.g., part-time).

SUMMARY (BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB)

Using several electronic hospital systems, analyzes medical records for documentation deficiencies to facilitate accurate completion in accordance with Capital Health and Joint Commission policy and regulation. Assembles medical records to provide a complete and organized record in preparation for scanning. Demonstrates proficiency in the utililzation of multiple EMR's.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:High School diploma or equivalency. EHR certification, RHIT or RHIA preferred.

Experience:Previous job related job experience and/or nine credits of college coursework in Health Information Management.

Other Credentials:

Knowledge and Skills:Excellent customer service skills. Experience with electronic medical record systems. Working knowledge of detailed privacy regulations - HIPAA, Corporate Compliance, and NJ Department of Health.

Special Training:Basic PC proficiency skills required. Basic skills in MS Word, Excel and Email preferred.

Mental, Behavioral and Emotional Abilities:Ability to work individually and/or as a team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Electronically analyzes medical records for documentation deficiencies using several hospital systems where the Capital Health hybrid record resides. Adheres to Medical Record Documentation Requirements Policy when assigning deficiencies to L.I.P.'s.
  • Gathers Inpatient and Outpatient discharges from the nursing units and outpatient areas on a daily basis to and comfirm that all have been received using automatically generated reports. Assembles medical records according to a Capital Health Chart Order policies. Creates a packing list and correctly box and prepare discharge charts for offsite scanning on a daily basis within a prescribed timeframe.
  • Understands each system where CH hybrid medical record resides in order to access hospital systems and understand the types and locations of patient services. Understands and troubleshoots medical records where the patient crossed from one admit type to another and assures the complete record has been received.
  • Interacts with nursing unit staff and outpatient department staff to obtain all medical records in a timely manner. Assists nursing and other providers by answering phone calls and providing printed and verbal information when needed.
  • Changes the newborn name in the hospital clinical mainframe using the birth certificate in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Utilizes the ED clinical electronic system to review and confirm the accuracy of scanned images.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
