Job Description

The HIM Generalist reports to the HIM Director and Team Lead and supports the mission of Health Information Management by ensuring the accuracy, integrity, security, and availability of the electronic health record (EHR). This role provides complex operational support within HIM and is cross-trained to perform multiple HIM functions.

The HIM Generalist serves as a subject matter expert in core HIM workflows, including record completion, release of information, and document management. This position also assists in identifying staff learning needs, supporting operational activities, and contributing to performance improvement initiatives during a designated shift. The role includes coaching peers and sharing knowledge to strengthen team performance and compliance with HIM standards.

                             

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide operational support for multiple Health Information Management workflows.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for processes such as:

    • Record completion

    • Release of Information (ROI)

    • Document management

    • Electronic health record maintenance

  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity, confidentiality, and availability of health records.

  • Assist with identifying staff training and development needs.

  • Monitor operational activities and support performance improvement initiatives.

  • Provide coaching, guidance, and knowledge transfer to HIM peers and staff.

  • Support workflow coverage across HIM functions as needed.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
