Job Overview

Cigna is looking for a talented PostgreSQL & Microsoft SQL Senior database administrator to support and build new Postgres & SQL Databases.  The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years experience in production database operation support, database development, database administration, knowledge of general database concepts, and server administration. Experience with database administration task automation a big plus. 

Responsibilities

  • Assist with intake requests, collaborate with the database engineering team and the database production support team and internal customers to deliver an enterprise-level database backend solution for top-tier applications ensuring infrastructure, use, supportability and cost align with company standards
  • Responsible for all aspects of database administration for Postgres databases including problem solving, configuration, and implementation efforts for large and / or complex projects with an emphasis in operation excellence and continuous improvement of database related processes and procedures
  • Collaborate with application architects, scrum masters, product managers, business analysts and technical management team to design, develop and document databases, schemas, tables, functions, triggers, procedures, relationships and other necessary aspects of the database
  • Clearly articulate database standards and policies to business customers.
  • Provide database solutions for organizational needs while working in accordance with internal policies and procedures 
  • Works with project teams to create needed database solutions
  • Responsible for quality control and auditing of database access to ensure accurate and appropriate use of data
  • Consults with and advises users on access to and performance of databases 
  • Works directly with users to resolve data conflicts and inappropriate data usage
  • Responsible for ensuring high levels of data available and database performance
  • Tunes and optimizes SQL Statements, Instance Parameters, and Data Storage, including the identification of performance related issues
  • Document standards or when ad hoc changes are driven by project requirements
  • Participate in scrum/work assignment meetings

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline (or equivalent experience) 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 11-13 years of experience required
  • 10-12 years of Database experience
  • Experience with query tuning, performance tuning and database design

Skills:

  • Strong technical acumen, able to ensure that technical solutions, strategies, practices, and governance deliver business and customer value 
  • Providing access and limiting unauthorized access
  • Strong collaboration skills and experience working across multiple teams both within a division and enterprise-wide 
  • Superior skills using Microsoft Office and Outlook 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required 
  • Strong interpersonal, problem solving, facilitation, and prioritization skills 
  • Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision and provide direction and oversight to application team. 

Desired Experience

  • General knowledge and usage of Agile work systems (scrum, Kanban, etc)
  • Experience using Service Now for Incident, Request and Change tracking
  • Development experience with one or more modern scripting/automation languages (Ansible, Python, PowerShell, etc.)
