Major Duties:
Qualifications: Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an High Voltage Electrician (Motor Vehicle Operator) without more than normal supervision. This includes splicing power cable, replacing a pot head, or pulling a conductor into a conduit or onto a pole cross arms; using a basic knowledge of electrical theory such as Ohm's law and series and parallel circuits in order to understand and interpret instructions and assignments; understanding commonly used drawings and diagrams of distribution networks and equipment interconnections; working safely in hazardous situations under close guidance of an onsite supervisor; diagnosing commonly encountered problems such as defective switches or blown fuses. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Selective Placement Factor: You must possess and maintain a valid State Commercial Driver's license (CDL) in one of the 50 US states or possessions. (You MUST include a copy of your CDL with your application package.) Physical Effort: The employee is subject to moderately heavy physical effort lifting, pulling, and carrying of equipment and material. They crouch, stand, kneel, and stoop while installing, repairing, or testing electrical equipment in confined spaces. Workers work above ground from aerial bucket trucks and poles, at ground level, and in trenches, or manholes. Work requires bending, stooping, climbing, and standing for long periods. Coordination of eyes, hands, legs, and body is needed in installing, repairing, and testing electrical equipment in confined spaces such as manholes and overhead structures. Working Conditions: Employee works outside most of the time, subject to extremes weather conditions, which could result in mandatory 24-hour emergency call to include being on-call status during non-regularly scheduled hours that includes weekends and holidays. The work may also require working near high voltage lines and equipment. Work requires extensive pole climbing, working in power-generating facilities or substations and in underground facilities. Subject to injury by contact with high voltage lines, broken bones in falls from poles, strains from awkward work positions, and less serious cuts and bruises when handling tools and materials. Subject to exposure to chemicals such as insulation oil from transformers and oil switches. May be required to work on energized lines due to the inability to de-energize the power lines due to the mission. Which will require the proper PPE and the approval of the Supervisor prior to the work being done.
