Job Summary

Physicians in the Division of Hematology-Oncology diagnose illnesses related to the blood as well as malignant neoplastic processes, prescribe and administer treatment for people suffering from injury and/or disease, with expertise in chemotherapy and oncolytic treatments. Physicians examine patients, obtain medical histories, and order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests. Physicians performs procedures related to the specialty such as bone marrow biopsies and intrathecal chemotherapy administration. Documents all services in patient medical record. Serves as faculty members of the University of Colorado, School of Medicine.

Essential Functions:
  • Collect medical histories of patients. (10%)
  • Perform diagnostic procedures using MRIs, x-rays, and biopsies to determine the existence and extent of cancerous tumors. (40%)
  • Create a treatment plan, typically comprised of radiation, chemotherapy, and/or surgery to combat cancers. (20%)
  • Perform physical evaluations and administrative tasks, like maintaining medical records. (10%)
  • Coordinate with other medical professionals to offer the best care possible for the patient. (10%)
  • Perform bone marrow transplants. (5%)
  • Provide supportive care to patients, including prescribing drugs to fight pain, inflammation, nausea, and fatigue. (5%)

Education:
  • Doctorate Degree Graduate of an accredited medical school. Required

Work Experience:

    Licenses:
    • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required
    • MD-Physician - State Medical Board Required

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures and techniques.
    • Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, notably chemotherapeutic and oncolytic agents.
    • Perform bone marrow aspirations and biopsies.
    • Administer intrathecal chemotherapy.
    • Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff support activities while providing quality medical care.
    • Able to receive detailed information through oral communications; express or exchange ideas by verbal communications.
    • Excellent written and verbal communications, listening, and social skills.
    • Able to interact effectively with people of varied educational, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds, skill levels and value systems.
    • Performs in a tactful and professional manner.
    • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
    • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
    • Computer skills required.
    • Computer skills preferred.

    $262,700.00 - $366,300.00 / yr (Pay range listed is for 1.0 full-time equivalent (FTE). See Work Type for actual FTE)
