Job Summary: This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base Facilities and Major Range and Test Facilities Base, NDAA 1125 (a) and (c). About the Position: This position is with the Joint Munitions Command located at Letterkenny Army Depot. Performs a full range of maintenance processes such as disassembly, repair, overhaul, modification, alignment, diagnosis, and testing.

Major Duties:

  • Disassembles equipment by disconnecting and removing units such as engines, transmissions, final drives, and various other assemblies and components.
  • Determines work methods to be used in disassembling equipment.
  • Reconditions equipment by replacing/overhauling parts, components, parts and major assemblies which entails the installation, hook up and connection of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems, and final adjustments.
  • Performs diagnostic and test functions in determining equipment serviceability, in tracing and locating defects, and in determining cause of malfunctions.
  • Uses precision test equipment such as vacuum gages voltmeters, ohmmeters, micrometers and related special tools.
  • Works with equipment specialists and area supervisors to fuel assets that are not easily transported or have access to a permanent fuel point.
  • Operates fuel truck in various on and offroad situations and dispense fuel as needed.
  • Uses trucks to deliver supplies, large equipment, and trash dumpsters/roll-offs.
  • Transports government owned vehicles to/from commercial repair and service providers as needed.
  • Assembles heavy duty hydraulic systems; determines component serviceability; disassembles, inspects, repairs and assembles components, and road tests, and troubleshoots as needed.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. which includes rebuilding, overhauling, tearing down, reassembling, repairing and/or modifying a wide range of types and sizes of heavy mobile equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT - Work is performed in a variety of positions which are uncomfortable, awkward, and tiring. Work also involves a considerable amount of bending, stretching, climbing, and stooping, either under or on vehicles. Frequently lifts and handles parts and equipment up to 40 pounds. Heavier items are moved/lifted with overhead hoists, cranes, forklifts or assistance from other workers. Must be able to fuel vehicles by operating standard fueling equipment as found on industry standard refueling tankers. Frequently will drag hoses in excess of 75' to reach equipment to be fueled. WORKING CONDITIONS - Works inside where there is frequent exposure to drafts, changing temperatures, dust, fumes, dirt, oil, and grease while standing on hard surfaces. Frequently works outside with the possibility of exposure to adverse weather conditions such as temperature extremes, rain, and snow. There is frequent exposure to cuts, burns, bruises, shocks, and strains and the possibility of skin irritation from vehicle fluids.
