JOB SUMMARY:

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a wide range of construction and oilfield equipment. This role requires the ability to independently load, haul, and offload equipment while adapting to a fast-paced environment with constantly changing priorities. A strong commitment to workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and quality work is essential, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and provide exceptional support to clients.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently, including loaders, excavators, cranes, winch tractors, and scissor neck trailers.
  • Load, haul, and offload all types of construction machinery and oilfield-specific materials, including tanks, skids, and other heavy equipment.
  • Safely operate tractor trailers in inclement weather, Arctic conditions, and challenging terrain.
  • Conduct routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs on assigned equipment; report defects or repairs to supervisors promptly.
  • Take proactive actions to avoid hazards and obstructions, including other equipment, workers, and falling objects.
  • Maintain accurate daily activity logs, work records, and transport documentation.
  • Identify operational problems and implement solutions in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and clients via phone, radio, or other communication methods.
  • Adhere to all company and client safety policies, environmental regulations, and workplace procedures.
  • Assist in rigging, securing, and balancing loads to ensure safe transportation of equipment.
  • Support load planning and weight distribution calculations to maintain safe transport of oversized or heavy equipment.
  • Operate auxiliary equipment and perform support tasks as needed, including staging and organizing materials.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on vehicles and equipment to ensure operational safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Stay focused, prioritize tasks, and complete assignments with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work a rotational schedule 3 weeks on 3 weeks off.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as directed.

SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledgeable in Oilfield Winch Truck, Scissor Neck Trailer, and heavy construction equipment operations.
  • Experience in all aspects of construction and oilfield equipment operation.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely in Arctic and extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform pre-trip, post-trip, and routine equipment inspections; identify and report maintenance issues.
  • Works well in group problem-solving situations.
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and environmental regulations; proactively report unsafe conditions.
  • Manages difficult customer situations; responds promptly to customer needs; responds to requests for service and assistance.
  • Communicates effectively with supervisors, team members, and clients via radio, phone, or in-person.

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including rotational shifts and extended hours.
  • Ability to assist with load rigging, securing, and weight distribution calculations.
  • Ability to participate in emergency response procedures, including spill response or equipment-related incidents.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Current Class A CDL license and current medical card required.
  • Five (5) years previous experience as a winch truck and scissor neck trailer operator preferred.
  • Two (2) years of previous experience working in Prudhoe Bay/North Slope preferred.
  • Experience multi skilled equipment operator preferred.
  • Equipment maintenance/repair experience preferred.
  • Valid state driver’s license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of Company’s Driving Policy.
  • Ability to pass drug, driving and background screening

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Brice Equipment has a fast-paced multi-tasking environment requiring a high degree of efficient and effective performance. Work is performed outside in arctic weather. Adaptability regarding schedule and design changes, and overtime is necessary.
