The Healthcare Access Specialist engages with government payers, institutions, HCPs and other key stakeholders to deliver value-based messages of Pfizer medicines and enhance access through operationalizing the approved public policy plan or healthcare initiatives for assigned disease area in the government sector - engage stakeholders e.g., Agencies, Local Government Units, Local Health Officials, payors, Institutions, Public Health Insurance. The role works closely with other colleagues in Market Access, Medical and Commercial, to ensure a cross-functional approach that is aligned in both strategy and implementation. The role involves leading engagement to build and maintain external relationships with a range of public non-traditional and emerging payors and other stakeholders involved in market access for Pfizer medicines and vaccines, including engagement at the executive level of payor organizations. The role requires a high level of competency in literacy (written and verbal communication) and numeracy skills, a comprehensive knowledge of health systems, HTA and medicines funding policy and decision making, and an ability to understand and synthesize highly complex information and data.
Role/Responsibilities
- Establishes relationships with key stakeholders and decision makers to understand public payers’ unmet needs and coordinate commercial & access long-term business objectives to maximize access
- Develop and operationalize the approved public policy plan or healthcare initiatives for assigned disease area in the public sector
- Create a customized value proposition, based on a deeper understanding of payer needs to secure access for new product launches, formulary inclusions, value added program (e.g. disease awareness and education), and/or commercial agreements in the public sector
- Analyze aggregated, de-identified data (non-patient) and improve efficiency of Public-Private Partnership Programs and contractual obligations
- Discuss approved treatment protocols
- Lead identification and strategic prioritization of new business opportunities with public payers
- Represent Pfizer with relevant external stakeholders to establish relationships and partnerships, deepen customer engagement and broaden Pfizer’s engagement and impact along the continuum of care
- As a subject matter expert, understand and anticipate future policy, procurement and access trends, with a focus on public payors, to advise the business and inform market access strategy and ensure Pfizer is positioned to lead in value-based healthcare.
- Work internally to influence and achieve strong alignment with commercial counterparts and relevant support functions so that opportunities are adequately resourced.
- Conduct feasibility studies for non-traditional access and funding pathways
- Collaborate with the Patient Access and Government Channel, BU Leads, other cross-functional colleagues develop and share a deep understanding of the evolving access landscape and opportunities for value-based healthcare initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Qualifications in pharmacy, public health, other life sciences, actuarial or pharma-marketing. Post-graduate qualifications in epidemiology, biostatistics or health economics a plus.
- Understanding of HTA/market access/pricing and 5 years plus experience in commercial and/or market access roles
- Experience in developing access strategies across multiple therapeutic areas is desirable.
- Experience within pharmaceutical, medical devices or affiliated industry.
- Ability to develop and sustain relationships at mid to senior levels with decision makers
- Strategic thinker and highly customer focused
- Excellent communication, networking and negotiation skills and the ability to cold call and generate new opportunities.
- Proven track record working effectively in a cross functional team, able to work seamlessly across multiple teams and business units and across various levels of leadership, both locally and globally.
