Lakewood Family Health Center’s Emergency Department is open 24/7 for infants through adults with 20 treatment rooms and convenient access to an outpatient laboratory, radiology services and outpatient family health center services. The Emergency Department is a wonderful place for someone who wants to work with diverse populations of patients and develop a wide skillset treating a variety of medical problems. 

As Health Unit Coordinator (HUC), you will offer unparalleled customer service to patients, families and visitors to enhance the Cleveland Clinic experience. Using your administrative and clerical skills, you will ensure an efficient operational flow of the department, allowing your fellow caregivers to continue providing optimal patient care.  

A caregiver in this position works rotating day/night shifts from 9:00 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. – 9:30 a.m. with every other weekend and holiday requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Conduct an in-person greeting, welcome and orientation to the unit for newly admitted and transferred patients. 
  • Respond to patient call lights and make rounds.  
  • Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges. 
  • Assist patients and families with wayfinding and direct them to available resources. 
  • Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care. 
  • Assist with unit clerical functions and in trouble-shooting equipment failures, such as call system, portable phones, WOWs and other unit devices. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High School Diploma or GED 
  • One year of experience in a customer service-related role  
  • Experience with typing, computer training or equivalent coursework 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • College degree  
  • Microsoft Office experience  

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires frequent data entry, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Requires normal or corrected speech, hearing and vision.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
