Job Summary: This National Guard position is for a HEALTH SYSTEMS SPECIALIST, Position Description Number D1119000 and is part of the NJ MEDICAL READINESS DETACHMENT, National Guard.

Major Duties:

  • As a HEALTH SYSTEMS SPECIALIST, GS-0671-9, you will: Review, evaluate, and interpret medical regulatory guidance, policies and procedures. Responsible for oversight, administration, and implement of policies pertaining to state medical affairs. Provide guidance to all users through development of policies, procedures and standard operation procedures (SOP) Collect, analyze and provide statistical reports. Monitors the funds associated with the health services account and provides an accounting for expenditures as required. Serve as the medical advisor to the representatives of the units assigned to include commanders, and personnel on eligibility for health care, sources of health care, medical aspects of physical readiness training and testing, Active Duty Medical Extensions, and LOD investigations. Serve as Medical Readiness NCO for a select number of units. Be responsible to monitoring and managing the medical readiness for the units of assignment. Performs other duties as assigned by the Office of the State Surgeon.

Qualifications: GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have have at least 12 months on-the-job experience and validated understanding of the basic principles and concepts of the occupational series and grade. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 12 months experience and knowledge in the following: Basic principles and practices related to the management of health care delivery systems General clerical procedures; medical terminology; regulations, and directives; medical ethics; health records administration; principles of coding; and anatomy or physiology programs Health facilities, health plan management, medical resources, health care information management and information technology, medical logistics, or medical readiness (including aeromedical evacuation) Analyzing and recommending solutions to complicated problems Developing and implementing various policies and procedures used in the state medical programs Administrative areas such as budget, personnel and public relations within a medical unit or medical activity.
