Clark Builders is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated HSE Co-op Student to support the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) team in the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the company’s safety program. Working under the direction of HSE professionals, the student assists with inspections, documentation, training support, and field-level safety activities to help promote a safe and compliant work environment across construction projects. This opportunity will provide both office and field exposure, with some travel required. This will be a 4, 8, or 12-month work term starting May 2026. This position is based in Calgary, AB.

Reporting to: HSE Manager

Duties & Responsibilities:

Health & Safety Support

  • Assist with site safety inspections and hazard assessments.
  • Participate in job hazard analyses (JHAs), safe work practices, Stretch and Flex Program and field-level risk assessments.
  • Support incident, injury, and near-miss reporting and documentation.
  • Assist with safety meetings, toolbox talks, and orientation materials.
  • Observe work activities and report unsafe conditions or behaviors to supervision.

Documentation & Administration

  • Maintain safety records, inspection forms, and training documentation.
  • Assist with data entry, tracking, and reporting of safety statistics.
  • Support preparation of reports, presentations, and audit materials.

Training & Communication

  • Assist with onboarding and site orientations under supervision.
  • Support development and distribution of safety communications and bulletins.
  • Promote safety awareness and positive safety culture on site.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments with tight timelines
  • Excellent organizational skills that demonstrate the ability to resolve conflicting priorities
  • Able to influence and effectively communicate with others
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office)

Working Conditions

  • Combination of office and active construction site environments
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
  • Periodic travel to project sites may be required

Qualifications:

Required

  • Completion of 1st year OH&S Diploma or similar program
  • Must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and reliable vehicle
  • Ability to work in a construction site environment
  • Must have a good understanding of workplace health principles, industry best practices and standards, health and safety legislation
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

Preferred

  • Previous construction or industrial experience
  • First Aid, WHMIS, or CSTS (or equivalent) training
  • Interest in pursuing a career in HSE or construction management
