The incumbent is responsible for the effective and compliant management of disability and workplace injury cases. They oversee claims and relationships with insurers and provincial commissions, while providing strategic expertise to managers and key partners. As a leader, they manage a specialized team and ensure performance indicators, governance, and continuous improvement in health and well-being.

What you will take ownership of on a daily basis:
Disability Case Management
Oversees the complete management of short-term and long-term disability (STD/LTD) cases, including collaboration with insurers, medical experts, and managers.
Monitors trends, recommends absenteeism reduction strategies, and optimizes return-to-work processes.
Workplace Injury Management and Provincial Claims
Oversees the management of claims with the various provincial boards and commissions (CNESST, WSIB, WCB, WorkSafe, etc.).
Reviews administrative decisions and recommends appeals, cost-sharing requests, or other strategies to reduce financial impact.
Analyzes complex cases and determines appropriate actions (medical reviews, expert assessments, legal representation).
Ensures preparation for and participation in hearings (administrative tribunals, reviews, mediations).
Financial Monitoring, Cost Control, and Reporting
Oversees the analysis of accident and disability costs: monthly reports, provincial trends, rate variations, and annual projections.
Develops and presents key performance indicators (KPIs) to leadership.
Manages the annual budget related to health, disability, and ergonomics.
Governance, Tools, and Compliance
Responsible for governance of workplace injury case management processes.
Ensures consistent application of internal policies, laws, regulations, and best practices related to disability management and occupational health and safety.
Oversees the management of statistical data, dashboards, and periodic reports (OSHA, CNESST, etc.).
Contributes to the development of an organizational culture focused on effective disability and workplace injury management, prevention, and employee well-being.
Ensures continuous improvement of claims management and return-to-work tools and practices.
Internal and External Partner Relations
Acts as a subject-matter expert and advisor to managers, Human Capital teams, medical advisors, and legal counsel.
Works closely with medical experts, insurers, external vendors, legal representatives, provincial commissions, Finance, and Operations teams.
Leadership, Team Supervision, and Performance
Leads, coaches, and develops a team of advisors, technicians, and other disability and workplace injury specialists.
Sets priorities, establishes objectives, monitors performance, and ensures the quality of interventions.
Plans resource needs, ensures ongoing training, and supports skills development.
The profile that can truly own the role:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, or a related field
10 years of relevant experience, including managing multidisciplinary teams, working with decision-making bodies, and handling complex or contentious cases.
Excellent knowledge of provincial workers’ compensation systems (CNESST, WSIB, WCB, WorkSafe, etc.).
Strong financial and operational analytical skills.
Results-oriented mindset, strong strategic thinking, and high administrative rigor.
Experience in a multi-site and/or unionized environment.
