Job Title: Health and Safety Manager

JOB PURPOSE 
The Safety Manager manages the Safety improvement activities to achieve excellence at all manufacturing and non‐manufacturing sites in the country. These sites include all manufacturing sites and head offices. Works with Supply Chain teams to understand the local SHE Strategy and improvement plans in the deployment of group safety strategies in order to achieve sustainable SHE excellence by reducing injuries, illnesses and environmental impact as measured in the core KPIs. They also support efforts related to the Community of Practice of SHE professionals.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Legal Safety representative for all Ireland sites.

  • Deployment of the global/cluster SHE strategy, policy and standards in the non‐manufacturing sites to achieve excellent sustainable results

  • Assist in the completion of safety and environment risk assessment in the manufacturing and non‐manufacturing sites and in developing/implementing appropriate controls

  • Reduce the manufacturing & non‐manufacturing sites’ environmental impact in the areas of COD, hazardous & non‐hazardous waste, SOx & CO2 emissions and water & energy consumption

  • Develop an understanding of the Unilever BBS Program and support deployment in the sites

  • Monitor manufacturing and non‐manufacturing sites legal compliance and ensure they meet all local/national regulatory requirements and Unilever standards.

  • Work closely with Occupational Health personnel to identify and mitigate risks which may lead to occupational ill health

  • Manages the training database for all employees and ensures all training requirements are fulfilled (making use of internal resources such as Occupational Health, external providers or directly where appropriate).

  • Leads and develops  the internal crisis committees and safety committee; support site leaders in the country/cluster in serious incident investigation and analysis

  • Ensures compliance with safe travel training and reporting requirements

  • Conduct trend analysis from incidents, near misses and safe behaviour observations

  • Participate in the community of practice of SHE professionals (manufacturing and non‐manufacturing) to ensure sharing of best practice and effective communication to and from Group.

  • Safety Officer - head up the safety team.

  • Investigate accidents, incidents - report and implement corrective actions.

  • Maintain incident spreadsheet

  • Set targets.

  • Ensure compliance to Unilever & HAS safety standards, complete yearly audit.

  • Contractor Management

  • Permit to work system.

  • Safety Co-ordinator for Health and Safety Team.

  • Co-ordinate/conduct  internal factory safety audits.

  • Co-ordinate/conduct  safety risk assessments

  • Maintain risk spreadsheet

  • Maintain of safety statement

  • Maintain and update safety board.

  • Maintain change management procedures

  • Participate in new product project implementation. 

  • Conduct all QA and QC internal auditing requirements.

Quality

  • Member of Quality team

  • Apply QC Hold/Recall/Rework procedures

  • Investigate supplier non-conformances

  • Cover for QA and QC roles.

Production

  • Investigates accidents, incidents – report and implement corrective actions.

  • Ensure compliance to Unilever & HAS safety standards, complete yearly audit.

  • Ensure all staff are trained in relevant health and safety practises and procedures.

Warehouse

  • Housekeeping & Hygiene.

  • Ensure and maintain good health and safety practises are maintained by all personnel – e.g. Safe driving of the forklift.

Maintenance

  • Ensure first aid stations are fully stocked.

  • Carry out and report audits on housekeeping.

  • Liaise with production manager and chargehand to ensure all plant and equipment are maintained and in safe working order.

General

  • Involved with Training and induction of all sub-ordinates.

  • Liaise with Production Manager to ensure all contractors meet required Unilever health and safety requirements, and all risk-assessments and method statements are correct and up to date.

ALL ABOUT YOU 

Essentials

  • Professional degree or professional diploma  in SHE related field

  • Qualifications required by local regulatory authorities

  • Proven track record of analytical thinking
     

Preferred

  • University degree in SHE related field

  • Proven experience in extended Supply Chain operations

  • Prior Unilever experience

Recruitment Fraud

Cyber criminals advertise fake job adverts with prestigious employers as a way of stealing information or even defrauding individuals out of money. In the most sophisticated cases, they will set up fake websites, which have a similar address to companies like Unilever. They even conduct fake telephone interviews and then offer candidates a role with the proviso they pay a fee for background checks or to cover work visa costs. These types of attacks are becoming more common as more people are looking for employment in the economic climate.
 

How is Unilever tackling this?

Many of Unilever’s recruitment sites publish a warning to candidates about recruitment fraud. The Cyber Security team also proactively scan for signs of people setting up fake Unilever sites and act to close them down.
