The Head: Product is accountable for the end‑to‑end strategy, design, performance, and optimisation of OM Bank’s core banking products, with primary focus on Transactional Accounts, Credit Products, and related customer money‑management solutions. The role ensures these products deliver strong customer value, regulatory compliance, commercial sustainability, and digital‑first experiences aligned to OM Bank’s strategic positioning.
Responsibilities
Customer Relationship Development:
- Develop and implement a relationship management plan for strategic, complex potential accounts to build key relationships at local and
- national levels. Coordinate the engagement of own organization with the customer organization to ensure effective two-way flow of
- information and resolution of issues. Focus on direction setting and achieving operational results through building a strong operational &
- sales management team, with support functions (HR, communication, process management etc.)
Leadership and Direction:
- Identify and communicate the actions needed to implement the function's strategy and business plan within the business area or department;
- explain the relationship to the broader organization's mission, vision, and values; motivate people to commit to these tenets and do
- extraordinary things to achieve local business goals.
Performance Management:
- Manage and report on performance within the department or area of responsibility; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports
- and hold individuals accountable for achieving them; take appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of
- annual business objectives.
Customer Relationship Management
- Develop and implement a relationship management plan for strategic, complex existing accounts to build key relationships at local and national levels. Coordinate the engagement of own organization with the customer organization to ensure effective two-way flow of information and resolution of issues. Manage key client and customer relationships, often through account teams, to ensure their ongoing satisfaction and loyalty.
Operational Compliance:
- Ensure that business activities within a significant area of responsibility comply with relevant external regulatory and/ or voluntary codes and with internal policies to minimize business risk and protect the reputation of the organization
Operations Management:
- Manage a significant operational area for the organization
Budgeting:
- Manage budget plans for a department. May involve development or delivery or both.
Strategy Formation and Implementation:
- Develop tactical plans for optimizing resources and assets being managed within a significant area or department.
Financial Management and Control:
- Manage a significant portion of the organization's financial management and/or control processes.
Financial Products Development:
- Manage a medium-sized financial product development or specialist team and/or manage the definition, development, and delivery of
- significant financial products, ensuring alignment with customer requirements.
Product and Solution Development:
- Take responsibility for managing the definition, development, and delivery of a significant product or service within the product development
- and engineering program, ensuring alignment with customer requirements.
Product Management:
- Take responsibility for all aspects of a life cycle of a group of products, including long- and short-term development and marketing.
- Stay abreast of trends in the marketplace to ensure the products' competitive position.
Product Positioning:
- Coordinate a significant area or process focused on enhancing product positioning while considering customer perception and competitor analysis.
Product/Service Information:
- Speak to advanced features of the product/service that are expected to be delivered later; respond to complex customer questions around the future of the product/service and what the customer can expect.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field
- Master’s degree in business, finance, or a related field (preferred)
- 10 years’ experience in product management
- 10 years’ experience in banking
- Extensive knowledge of the banking products and industry in the SA context, its regulatory framework, as well as knowledge on current global trends
- Strong leadership and people management skills are essential for leading high-
- performing teams.
- A collaborative, communicative leader that builds and maintains authentic,
- mutually beneficial partnerships with all stakeholders
- Experienced in managing change in an agile environment and being
- responsive to new inputs while being able to maintain a strong strategic vision for the area.
