This role will be based in London, UK and you are required to have the necessary right to work details prior to application.

Purpose of the Job

To lead an Upstream Energy team, to underwrite and develop a profitable book within business plan parameters. Responsible for building the strategy, risk appetite and business plan for the portfolio. 

Reporting Relationships

Reports directly to the International Head of Marine, Energy and Industrial Risks

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop long-term strategy and business plan for the product line, including business to be written on Lloyd’s Syndicate and Insurance Company paper in London and other Hartford offices around the world.

  • Identify new products to enhance the product suite.

  • Key contributor to the Treaty and Facultative Reinsurance strategy around the portfolio

  • Build and execute on marketing and distribution strategy, including cross-selling of the product throughout the Hartford global network.

  • Provide thought leadership in the marketplace by participating in various industry associations that address product issues and raise our brand profile.

  • Develop and research business opportunities through London Market brokers and Hartford offices.

  • Management of class underwriters, including reviewing risks and reinsurance purchases.

  • Ensure compliance with The Hartford best practice and Lloyd’s regulations at all times.

  • Ensure that appropriate systems are in place for the monitoring and reporting of aggregate exposures across the syndicate.

  • Partner with business actuaries to manage the current pricing models and enhance where needed.

  • Report to senior management the development of the account against business plan expectations.

  • Contribute as required to the quarterly reserving process to ensure that adequate reserves for future liabilities are maintained for the account.

  • Contribute to the monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting of underwriting results.

  • Provide leadership, direction and development of staff creating a high performing team.

  • Communicate objectives of the business plan and underwriting strategy to internal stakeholders including executive leadership at the syndicate and group level.

  • Active member of the Underwriting & Claims Committee, and others where relevant.

  • Ensures that all policies and procedures are adhered to.

  • Adhere to any common standards set across the company and ensures that policies and procedures are adequately documented.

  • Undertake continued Professional Development and comply with The Hartford procedures
