What Is the Opportunity?

Join Travelers as the Head of Risk at our London office, leading the UK Risk team!

Under general direction, you will support the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) in establishing and maintaining a Risk Management Framework across the business including strategies and policies which identify, assess and mitigate the impact of risks originating from or impacting the organization's portfolio of activities/interests, and in day to day management of the Risk Management Team. This job manages staff.

Travelers Europe currently offers flexibility to employees who wish to work on a hybrid basis in accordance with our Hybrid Work Arrangements Policy. This entails full time employees working three days a week in the office and two days at home (or pro rata for part-time employees). This policy may be changed at the Company’s discretion.

What Will You Do?

  • Designs and develops risk management strategy, principles, framework and policy to ensure that risks are managed to the best economic advantage of the company, and within its stated risk appetite.
  • Implements appropriate risk management processes and methodologies including ongoing monitoring of their effectiveness.
  • Advises and coaches management and business units on risk management.
  • Designs, develops and implements an effective enterprise-wide risk management framework that adds value to the business, and remains Solvency II compliant.
  • Supports CRO in providing independent challenge to the executive on matters relating to risk, particularly in relation to strategic proposals, and including the risks in the business' capital and liquidity strategies.
  • Ensures that best practice is applied and maintained by leveraging communication channels with relevant internal and external parties.
  • Ensures that all key risks are identified, assessed and monitored on an ongoing basis, and reports made to management, relevant committees and Board.
  • Supports CRO in delivering advice to the Board on enterprise-wide risk management issues.
  • Assists in designing appropriate stress and scenario tests including reverse stress tests.
  • Works collaboratively with Capital Modelling Team to ensure that the Risk Management System and Internal Model are widely integrated.
  • Works collaboratively with International Enterprise Risk Management and Corporate Enterprise Risk Management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Thorough knowledge of risk management techniques and best practices in the London market as well as at Lloyd's, including familiarity with key functions and processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of general regulatory requirements as they relate to business lines supported.
  • Intermediate knowledge of corporate structure, as well as a particular business units products and procedures.
  • Master problem solving skills and ability to identify complex, critical and sensitive filing issues.
  • Advanced ability to concisely present complex regulatory issues.
  • Advanced ability to understand, synthesize and convey complex data.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced ability to negotiate skillfully and successfully.
  • Advanced ability to prioritise and multi-task duties and projects on a timely basis.
  • Has an advanced level of credibility, reliability and availability both within and outside the organisation.
  • Advanced understanding of the business and able to respond to all related issues and problems in a timely manner.
  • Intermediate ability to lead and motivate a technical staff.
  • Advanced ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships across organizational lines.
  • Preferably holds a relevant professional qualification (e.g. ACII or FIRM).

What is a Must Have?

  • University degree.
  • Experience of working with functional management and building good relationships required, including ability to facilitate risk workshops and make presentations to stakeholders.
  • Thorough knowledge of risk management techniques and best practices in the Insurance industry experience.
