Head of Reporting Control Management

ING is looking for a Head Reporting Control Management with a desire to work in a dynamic, demanding and internationally oriented controls team at ING’s Head Office.

Your Work Environment

Within Group Finance Policies & Procedures, Reporting Control Management is a corporate department responsible for Internal Control over Financial and Regulatory Reporting (including SOX). In this capacity the team is the linking pin between Group Finance and the other corporate departments, local ING entities, shared service centers and Hubs. RCM’s key responsibility is empowering ING’s management to be in control over external reporting, in the most effective and efficient way possible. This includes maintaining day-to-day relationship with the local finance control officers and taking ownership for the relevant control frameworks (e.g. SOX, regulatory reporting and ESG) and its implementation. The RCM team has a dynamic culture, characterized by open, direct and informal communication, with a focus on teamwork in a highly international setting.

Your Role

As Head RCM you fill a top-level role for ING. Within Group Finance Policies & Procedures – a broad and vital area of expertise of ING – you are responsible for identifying and (helping) eliminating reporting risks and increasing control awareness within the entire global organization. You do not only collaborate intensively with direct colleagues within Finance, but also with CFO’s, NFR, internal audit (CAS) and our external auditors. You are strongly results oriented in your work and you can count on your substantive knowledge and experience including in SOX, as well as on your feeling for (internal) clients and business. You are capable of approaching issues from a ‘helicopter’ perspective but can also handle issues in detail when necessary. You are independent and dare to speak out.

Your most important tasks will include ­

  • Leading an international team of approximately 10 Finance control experts;
  • Functional oversight of HUBs SOX control testing and quality assurance;
  • Responsible for the global coordination of the internal controls over financial and regulatory reporting (including SOX 404 Sign-Off process within ING Group);
  • Helping entities with the implementation of Minimum Standards regarding internal controls on regulatory reporting and ESG reporting to ensure a sound reporting environment;
  • Support the full organization in the implementation of internal controls in line with the guidance to ensure a sound control environment;
  • Investing in the Finance community, particularly in the area of controls, by providing trainings and workshops to a wide group of global finance control officers;
  • Managing SOX Center of Excellence;
  • Ensure the department has a sound strategic direction;
  • Account management of ING’s external auditor, incl. ensuring the independence and monitoring of fees and reporting to Audit Committee;
  • Compliance Manager and NFR coordination for Group Finance.

Your profile

  • A university (Master’s degree) diploma in (Business) Accounting, Economics or Finance, preferably supplemented by an RA, RC, CPA or CA certificate
  • At least 10 years of work experience in the area of Banking, Finance, or Risk Management
  • Deep expertise, knowledge of and at least 10 years of work experience with the Sarbanes Oxley Act including SOX 404 and 302
  • At least 10 years of work experience in external audit, preferably big 4
  • Demonstrable knowledge of banking business processes including design, implementation and execution of regulatory oversight and knowledge of the relevant (legal) regulations and procedures
  • Experience with financial statement closing processes, loan loss provisioning, financial markets, and IT General controls
  • Demonstrated success in leadership and management skills to create and embed a team culture that lives ING’s values 
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with strong interpersonal skills for interfacing with ,all levels of management
  • Actively supports development of the team and self-development
