Job Description
The Head of Product Development and Pricing is a senior leadership role accountable for shaping and executing Old Mutual Group Retirement Solutions product development, pricing and commerciality in our area. The role exists to ensure sustainable, profitable growth within the Group Retirement space by integrating product development, analysis of trends in industry and internationally and pricing as a strategic lever. The incumbent will lead pricing and product development and act as a key commercial and technical advisor to senior stakeholders. This role is central to improved competitiveness across industry while managing commercial interests of Old Mutual.
Key Result Areas / Outputs:
Pricing Strategy
- Own the Group Retirement Solutions pricing strategy to support sustainable profitability and growth in administration.
- Review pricing and its commercial impact are aligned to Old Mutual’s governance frameworks.
- Provide executive oversight of large and complex scheme pricing, non-standard pricing decisions, and client negotiations.
- Maintain effective pricing governance, including approval structures and evidence.
Product Development
- Own competitor pricing and product intelligence, ensuring insights inform pricing strategy, product development, and market positioning.
- Provide technical leadership and support to distribution channels on product design, pricing, and member outcomes.
- Position Old Mutual as a thought leader through technical insights, presentations, and market engagement.
Analytics, Insights and Decision Support
- Collaborate with analytics team to design advanced analytics capabilities to support pricing, profitability analysis and client insights.
- Enable data-driven decision-making through dashboards, MI, and pricing performance monitoring.
- Ensure clear feedback loops between pricing outcomes, client behaviour, and product performance.
Leadership and Operating Model
- Foster strong collaboration across Product, Distribution and Operations.
- Build a culture of accountability, innovation, and commercial ownership within the pricing and product development functions.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Provide senior oversight of system development and control environment for product enhancements.
- Act as an interface with IT and agile feature teams.
- Report to the Old Mutual SuperFund Board as required.
Requirements:
- Qualified Actuary
- 10+ years’ experience in pricing, product development, or leadership roles.
- Expertise in building valuation models and profitability management
- Proven leadership experience
- Strong commercial thinking with experience in distribution support.
- Demonstrated ability to operate at a commercial level, influencing strategic decisions and outcomes
- Experience working across complex, matrixed organisations is essential
- Demonstrates clear, confident, and effective communication across multiple stakeholders and levels of the business
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage teams to achieve shared goals and high performance
- Drives accountability and proactively resolves problems, ensuring delivery of results and continuous improvement.
