JOB TITLE: Head of Operations and Controls - Legal & Secretariat
SALARY: £104,992 - £123,520
LOCATIONS: Edinburgh, Bristol, Chester, Halifax, Leeds and Newport
HOURS: Full-time
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites.
Legal & Secretariat (L&S) is a forward-looking and innovative team with a clear ambition to be multi-skilled, agile team, capitalising on technology and being informed by data. We provide expert legal & governance advice and support to businesses and functions across the Group in service of our purpose to Help Britain Prosper.
You will lead the Legal Operations team of circa 12 colleagues who serve the teams providing legal and governance advice. The Legal Operations team incorporates the Chief Controls Office, the Business Unit Data Office and Supplier Management.
Key responsibilities
Being part of the L&S Extended Leadership Team involves working closely with the L&S Senior Leadership Team to deliver L&S strategy and change activity. You will be responsible for leading on the achievement of the function’s balanced scorecard objectives on budget, headcount, risk and people metrics.
The role includes governance of the L&S function including budget forecasting, strategic workforce planning and Organisation Health reviews. You will also be a member of the Disputes & Operations Leadership team, reporting to the General Counsel, Disputes & Operations.
We’re looking for an experienced and proactive leader, who can:
Be highly motivated and play a key role in enabling the delivery of first-class, technology enabled services.
Demonstrate ability to handle high-profile priorities simultaneously and an ability to think in an agile way, and quickly ‘join the dots’ between discrete pieces of information.
Be a confident and credible communicator and writer, able to influence and give concise, persuasive advice at the highest level.
Be versatile and be able to work at pace.
Demonstrate exceptional people skills and a strong passion for building relationships and supporting colleagues’ development.

What you'll need
Experience in a Chief Operating Office setting or in Legal Operations, where you:
have delivered costs and headcount to budget;
have been part of resetting risk or risk management;
had oversight of third party suppliers;
have been the business owner of a Platform application; and
had oversight of policy compliance for the function
